It is not Purple Heart. I think it is Tiger maple.

Not sure about the full splice. Maybe someone can chime in on Mike Stacey cues.

Well, the forearm sure looks like maple, but the points and the butt does not. The butt may be stained maple, bit hard to tell with the reflection in the pic, but the points sure don't look like maple to me.
