next best thing to simonis?

Have not even heard of most these cloths! Gives me alot to research now. Thanks


I think my 860 is about 4 years old now and on it's second stretch

Still plays great but it's about 50% white now. If I did not draw lines on it I would use it once more. Too bad I drew lines on it :)


Thanks again for the advice. I just may try something else this go 'round


Now I have to find something to do with my current cloth. Cost too much to toss out /shrug

Are you referring to ball marks?
If so then you will get that with any worsted cloth. Good maintenance helps cloth
look new longer but there's not much one can do after 4 years.

Note that many equate "wear" with "looks like crap". There's a difference.
While the cloth may be marked up it doesn't mean it's worn as long as it plays correctly.
When a ball zigs when it should have zagged on a normal shot then your looking at actual cloth wear.
 
I am replacing the cloth, not because of the burn spots; rather a chronic problem with children ;)

two cushions are coming unglued from little fingers using them as anchor points for those quick turns around the pool table while running!
Going to put new cushions on all the way around

a "mystery" tear on the slate surface. Real small... It's one of those things that happen to my table that nobody seems to know how it got there... Just like those liquid stains that somebody tried to clean but does not remember doing it when asked "do you know what spilled on he pool table?" .


But what's really making me swap out the cloth is the durhams rock hard water putty. Going to use bondo this time.


I need to pull the cloth to make repairs and can not reuse he cloth since I drew lines on it with a sharpie. Head string, rack guide marks, and a center line for spotting. No way I am going to stretch it correctly and keep the artwork in the correct spots...
 
Yeah, 50% white = tens of thousands of little round burn marks. Going to get a pic before I tear down. It's the worste I have seen...

could you name some brands? As I'm going to do a "build a pool table" woodworking project, I will put felt on the table myself as well. And provided China charges cheap on almost everything they produce, I'd rather experiment with Chinese worsted cloth and change to major brands like Simonis later. Also might be easier to access for me as China borders Russia ;) So which are Chinese cloth manufacturers?

The most popular worsted that "was" made in China is Velocity Pro and it's priced at the low end for worsteds.
Now I say "was" because it's not currently being produced and it's a coin flip as to whether any more will be made.
Same same for the Aramith Tournament cloth. Users are limited to current inventory colors in the US.

There is a new worsted cloth coming to market called ProForm which will be priced somewhere around
Velocity/Aramith. 23 oz weight, 70/30 and available in about 12 colors.
Jay Spielburg has a few cuts so hopefully he can render an opinion in the near future.

I suppose I should add that knockoff Simonis is made in China.

China isn't going to sell by the table cut buddy, be prepared to order lets say....maybe 300 meters or so...as a minimum purchase;)

I also found Porter Billiards cloth made in China and offered by local sellers, you might have never heard of it but that's quite popular manufacturer brand I would say. 100% nylon for $18 per 1 meter (approx 3 ft), and 65 wool/35 nylon for $25, and 60/40 for $26, and 70/30 for $45. Simonis 760 is $76, 860 - $90.
