If you like the idea of low deflection, but don't like the soft feel of the predator, and the ob-1. then you have to try the new ob-classic. Low deflection just like the ob-1................but it hits like a southwest. Royce has hands down outdone himself with this shaft.

Tks for the heads up.

THIS SHAFT HITS IT GOOD

Why do all equipment names in pool sound like sexual innuendo?

does it really hit like a southwest? are the tapers similar? i always thought the taper to the ob was a little longer.

Is it some sort of trade secret or can the creator come out and explain how is it possible and how does they acheive it.

I am a little skeptical when it comes to people comments that it hits like a ton! like a bus, solid etc etc.

I think it is very subjective and i would really like to understand it.

But i am glad that you found something that suits you. I am still searching.

@Masterclass,

i think he just wanted to describe that the *OB Classic* doesn t feel like a laminated shaft. It has far more weight (3.7-4.1 from what i heard) and the Classic has no foam inside- further they used another ferrule-material.

And anyway: the hit of a cue is always something *subjective*. Imo he just wanted to show up how *good* the Classic hits and that it almost feels like a non-laminated shaft :o)

the construction of the ob cues has been explained quite a few times on here. the ob classic is made from a similar blank as the ob-1, but with no foam core and a different ferrule. it doesn't have any hollow spaces like the predator, it instead uses a balsa wood pin to lighten up the front end.

I agree with what you have said.

The only point i find ambiguous is the "Hits like a Southwest" part.

Or maybe i am just jealous. I want to find "that" that he has found.

I think it is going to be a while before this shaft comes around here where i can get to try it.

I was planing to get a custom cue built christian "kenobi" then i can fit it with an OB-1 shaft. Not sure the classic would fit into my scheme of things......

I would really like to know just how low deflecting this shaft is. I have a hard time believing that it's low deflection properties compare to that of the OB-1 and 314-2. The classic does sound like a good shaft none the less.

@MasterClass

I m sure to understand why you re unsure :o).
Me for example used to play with very hard shafts- all with an european taper- after i begun again to play billiards (now after 10 years) i tried an OB-1 shaft- i was surprised how good it felt-even if it was for sure not that hard :p
The action you can easily receive with less power/acceleration really surprised me and atm i m keep playing with it. The only thing i miss was the weight of the shaft-so it would be a bit more balanced forwards than with my ob-1 shaft. Now i m thinkin also about a classic or classic-pro shaft, because the weight should be between 3.7 and 4.1 oz. And further a bit stiffer. Personally i would enjoy to test it first- but unfortunatley in germany are not so many guys playin with a ob shaft. I just know just 2 guys except me. But i m sure that i ll order one in the next 2 months. ....and hope that the classic or classic-pro will bring me the same results (action of the cueball) and advantages like the *old* classic shaft.

I have played with OB1 30" for a few years and have tried the OB classic for a few weeks it was 29" so i could only play with an open hand bridge and had to send it back to get a 30" version. From what i can tell on all shots very stiff and a pleasure to hit. On some shots felt like more deflection than OB1 and on some shots felt like less deflection than OB1. All and all i can't wait to get the news OB Classic 30" for me i know it's a better shaft than the OB1 which i love, so there you go.

I don't have much experience with different shafts. I've played with conventional hard shaft, 314-2 and Black dott. I've bought a McDermott with an OB Classic shaft and been playing for about a month now. I just love it. I had to get used to it for a week or two but never felt awkward - I just knew this cue was right for me. The shaft is meaty and heavy, the sound is great and the feel is awesome.
Maybe this sounds too cheesy but I don't care. I've had so much fun playing with it, it actually brought the joy of pool back to me, so at least I can do is say a few good words on this product.

/I got my cue and shaft from www.joerackem.com - great guys to deal with/

***EDIT*** - i've sold the shaft and went back to a conventional hard shaft with longer taper. What i've said still stands, i rly enjoyed it, but i like to change cues often.
