My South West Dilemna

Woohoo, my new cue is here!

Normally that would be awesome news, and well I guess it is. After waiting a bazillion years I finally got the cue I've always wanted. Unfortunately I've hardly screwed a cue together in the last four or so years so basically I'm lookin' at this thing being a nice wall decoration. I suppose I could have worse trouble... but I'm thinking about the nice bump I could give my son's college fund.

What to do, what to do...

I think that is the problem when you have to wait 10years for a cue.

I think you should sell it! That is no closet queen you got there!

Should fetch a pretty penny.

Put a drop of liquid dish soap in thE shaft end and screw it together. Repeat for shaft 2 wipe any excess off with a paper towel. It can be tight but lubracating up the joint threads will help alot

I had the same situation back in 96.

I had waited almost 6 years for my SW, pin # 96-357, and had quit playing by the time it got delivered.

I sold it to a buddy for roughly what I had in it, he went broke a week later and pawned it for like $300.

Let it go and it's GONE.

Ahhh, the Southwest mystique...."I gotta wait 10 years for one so it must be the best cue made."

P.T. Barnum was right..

I wouldn't waste my time ordering a SouthWest. They can be had from various places so I see no reason waiting that amount of time for one. I think a year, a year and a half is plenty.

As for your situation, sell it. SouthWest still makes great cues and it would be a crying shame to let that sit on a shelf somewhere. Again, you can buy one from another place if you get back into shooting.

I would say sell it if you have no plans to play with it. It looks to have an Alves forearm which makes for a monster player. You will have no problem selling it.

It's also nice to see an OU fan with a cue in Texas orange. :)

Beautiful stick, nice piece of real estate.
Thanks, I'm really pleased with the way it came out.

Yeah... I know. It's a tough decision, though.

So far I've only screwed one shaft on it for about a minute just to see how if felt. I bumped the cue ball a couple of times for grins then quickly put it away so I wouldn't be tempted to chalk up and spend the next 8 hours trying to find the place where I last lost my stroke, lol.

^This^ is exactly what makes the decision difficult.

lol... If you don't like 'em, fine. No skin off of my nose. This isn't my first SW and likely not my last but it is the first that I designed so it's special to me.

True, but it wouldn't be "my" SW. Actually if I had it to do over again I would have ordered one every year.

Now that's hitting below the belt.

And I guarantee there is nothing longhorn on this cue.

:D

That was a pretty funny comment about the longhorn orange! :grin-square:

Nice looking cue. If you are seriously considering selling it, I would seriously consider buying it.

Please keep me in mind if you head in that direction; maybe give me first crack. :)

Best,

Does your kid really have to attend college?

Keep the cue and send him to trade school. He'll end up making more money that way.

If I waited 8 or 10 years for a cue, I sure as hell wouldn't sell it without playing with it for a while.

Sorry, not trying to be a douche or anything but I think the "I designed" comment is a bit of a stretch. SouthWest makes very few variations of their cues and yours is one of them. I think that line should read "The first cue I chose the colors for" would probably suit it a little better. hehe!!! And even then, I know I've seen South's like this before.

It's a really nice cue, man. Too bad it didn't inspire you to get back out on the tables.

Thats what I say.....its OSU Cowboy orange if anything

Texas!.....HA! Oklahoma will smite thee lol

Tell you something funny I bought a whitten about a year ago from Ftgokie i believe (possibly could be wrong lol) anyways the case came from Norman, OK....it was really nice the pics looked like a nice brown and light tan split on each a side.

I get the case in and I'm CRAZY EXCITED...open it up took it out to package with my mother watching....she says, "wow thats really nice"....At the same time I muttered, "S.O.B."

She says "whats wrong"

I looked at her real cool and calm and said,

"Oh yea its real nice alright, great craftsmanship and all that....but i wasn't really trying to be a walking billboard for University of Oklahoma...in the pics it looked brown and tan...and being the LSU fan that I am, of course i get stuck with a pouch full of Norman, Oklahoma."

That case is the nutz by the way lol:thumbup: its like Eddies Felsons cadillac...don't be scratchin up the thing....

So its only down fall is having to worry about getting little nicks/scuffs/scratches....its officially called my "man purse" by my gal lmfao.:grin:

I think it's a win either way.

If you keep it (especially in unplayed condition), it's only going to get more valuable.

If you decide to sell it now, you'll get far more than you paid for it. I would guess in the neighborhood of $2.5-2.7K, and that's conservative.

Like others have said, if you have no intention of playing with the cue, or no attachment to it, then the question is more like "When should I sell this", instead of just, "Should I sell this".

I wish I had your problem!!! LOL!

Thats exactly my issue with the case lol, kinda it sure not worth that sweet SW, but is worth a small bankroll....if I ever wanted to sell it I'd go pimp it on the corner same place it came from...Norman lol:wink:

Best wishes to the OP with your decision my man....its a nice cue and whatever you decide to do with it will be a good choice :)

all the best,

You are being a total douche!!! It is evident that one you care nothing about other people and
they're love or passion for things they care about, if its different than your own beliefs.
And second, you obviously no very little about South West cues! I have lived in Las Vegas for
over 35 years, Lori, Al, and Mickey are all close friends as was Jerry. I have seen some amazing
custom cues come out of that shop that were one of a kind designs
Unlike anything you have ever seen before!

Try to be polite to other peoples feelings, the person posting didn't want your feelings on
South West Cues, they had a delema
With a cue they love and your trying to trash it.

In the great words of our youth. "Don't Hate!!!"

If you don't need the cash.
KEEP IT!

Its your design. Its beautiful. You'll be sorry the minute it leaves your hands.
