Phenolic tip ban (question) ?

Is there a thickness that the leather tip has to be.

Can a very thin layer of leather be pulled across the phenolic tip and glued?
Once it drys the excess trimmed away.

So this way leather touches the cueball at impact but you still get the same basic hit as phenolic.

I'd love to test this new design and see if it would chip a cueball...but my old phenolic tip break cue still hasn't chipped one yet.

Maybe its me...anyone know how to get in touch with Chuck Norris I bet he could chip one.

As long as only leather is contacting the cue ball, you're OK. I was actually using a Samsara tip with a black phenolic ferrule for a while. It hit great but I tried various types of glue and none would keep the damn things together for longer than a month or so. No I use an Ivorine 4 ferrule and it's even better hitting than the phenolic.

Oh, and phenolic doesn't chip the balls, it cracks them. Go buy a brand new cue ball, break with a phenolic tip about 100 times and then look closely at the ball and you will see cracks...unless of course you're only breaking at like 5mph.

It seems like it would reasonably prevent cue ball damage, but are you really getting the same action as a phenolic tip? Sounds like it'd be cutting the rules a little close but it's a new one on me, maybe not. Maybe without hearing that sound the opponent will never notice anyway.

i put a tiger emerald over my phenolic tip and trimmed it down to 1 layer or so havent had any problems yet. i tried the full tip at first, good for breaking but could not jump until i trimmed it down. i play vnea league where phenolic is legal, but the casino tourny rules are bca and phenolics are not allowed.(jump or break)
