WTF? It was on EBAY for $1200.00 - twice. After fees you'd have about $1100, but WE, as fellow AZers, can get it for the low price of $1275.00??

I have never seen one without the LOGO "JOSS" I'll be 55 next month and seen alot of cues. I like it and questioned the condition with the NO RETURNS POLICY! This line has never had favorable results for ME! Good Luck on the sale of this beauty! BETTER KEEP IT, AS IT IS RARE WITHOUT THE LOGO. Ron
I had a 72 with the same ringwork and there was no "JOSS" on the buttcap, but many if not most, had their logo because many people were sending them back to add the identifier, so they did start to add it to their cues. Not sure the timing because I have seen older cues than mine w/the logo and mine didn't have it.
Who knows the rhyme or reason, but that's the way it was. Does this cue have a red rubber bumper?

I understand your concern, but you are really interested I can have you contact Dan Janes of Joss for verification of the cue. I had him refinish this cue a few months ago then it went straight in my case. If Dan verifies it as a Joss I don't know what else to prove to you. It was in the shop when him and Bill Stroud built Joss cues. Verification by Dan and a certificate of authenticity should be more than sufficient.

The first cues they built together did not have the JOSS logo. It was not untill Bill Stroud learned to engrave that they added the logo. During the time they built cues together (68-72) Bill did the engraving because he was better at it early on. His logo had a more italic look with a slanted "J". When they parted ways Dan did not engrave the cues for a short time until customers requested this. 1973ish. His engraving very early looked very bad until he learned how to engrave. Example of his early engraving is on Proficient's site on a cue with ivory blocks on the butt. Just because the cue in this case doesn't have a logo doesn't mean it was or wasn't from any time period. It is old and could have been refinished(logo removed) or never had a logo, one made during the short period that he did not put a logo on the cue. The important thing is Dan has had he cue in his hand and verified he made the cue. So it is in fact a 70's JOSS cue. The simple fact is everyone that has one of these early JOSS cues claims that it is from the 68-72 time period and 90% of the time that is simply not true. I have gathered all this info in emails with Bill & Dan. Most of what I just said came from them. If I'm wrong feel free to correct me. JOSS cues are all I enjoy collecting so I've put a lot of effort into gathering all the info about them I can. Regardless, this is a nice old cue that has the letter of authenticity to verify what it is. I think he is asking a fair price... Good luck with the sale.
Thank you for the kind words. I think this is a more than fair deal. Someone offered me $1500 for this cue on AZB, but I was late in replying to him/her. So, $1175 w/free shipping is one heck of a deal. As I stated before, I don't play much pool nowadays and I know someone else would really enjoy a cue like this. I spend approx. 90% of my free time with my 8 y/o son. Life is too short...

Could you post a photo of the LOA from Dan? That might clarify a lot.
Also, I am not familiar with Araina Blanco. Is that to say that the shafts are not original to the cue but were built by another cuesmith? How do the rings match up? Colors, etc match the joint on the butt of the cue, etc?

I know the wood and believe Dan played with it a little during this period, so I don't think these are after market shafts.
One characteristic of the wood is that it's extremely dense and doesn't move much, which is why I was shocked to see the amount of warp:

I had not seen those videos. I do have to hand it to Floppy. He is being totally up front and honest about the condition of this gorgeous old cue. In spite of the roll-out, I would be willing to bet that it is an awesome player.

I notice that you live in the Bay Area. If you are serious about this cue I would have NO PROBLEM showing this cue to you at Family Billiards in San Francisco. The reason why I stated no returns should be obvious... but the cue is in great condition for being around 40 years old...

My cue has been reported twice in the eBay auctions that they don't allow sales of ivory (unless pre-1920's) in their auctions. Funny thing...the first Joss cue I checked (Custom 1972 Joss Cue w/ 2 shafts) that it is loaded with iv__y. My ad had no reference to ivory (but in the pict) and it was reported twice. I might guess there is some animal activist somewhere out there who doesn't like the sale of elephant tusks. Sigh...this sucks.
If anyone is interested in the cue...make a reasonable offer. I don't play much at all nowadays and it would be nice for someone else to enjoy this great playing cue.
