Who all saw the Mika/SVB match, where Mika stopped the cb, with his cue, after a missed shot?

Most people in the chat, thought the game should have gone to SVB, but the ref ruled otherwise, and gave bih to Shane.

Any thoughts?
 
Yeah, that warranted a warning at least. That wasn't the only time he picked up a moving cue ball. He did it several times.

Even though Shane won that particular game, it was bush league stuff.

Mika "Baby Gap" Immonen should take a look at the rules.

I also noticed Shane concede about 4 balls in their first match . I thought that was against the rules also . Mika played outstanding . I am a Shane fan , but Mika plays the game just as good . He was the dominant player
this tournament . Mika opened some eyes
 
Shane should have won that match, I think he dogged the 10 ball, 2 or 3 times.

But, I agree that Mika did play strong and really came with it in the championship match.
 
I saw the whole thing. And i didnt think to highly of mika in the first place. But this really took the cake. The whole match he cried over scratching in the break. When he missed a shot he would slam the cue ball into the nearest pocket. This is why shane is my favorite player. No matter whats going on he keeps his composure and plays with class.

DID YOU MISS SHANE conceding about 4 balls , I am a Shane fan but Shane should have lost the first set just as bad as the 2nd set . Mika took every bad roll in the world on that first set . He broke great and the q ball got kicked in on him over and over . Do you know how much trouble Earl has got in conceding balls ? Tell it for what it is . Not what you want it to be
Mika only missed like 1 or 2 balls the first set .

Mika was shooting good all weekend. But in between matches you could tell his head want right, like he was in a bad mood or something. Had a blast seeing all the Pros in person though.

What do you guys think about the rules they were using? Obviously they were all playing by the same set of rules, so from that standpoint it was fair, but do you think these are rules we should adopt?

I like them . It seemed to come down to the break . For Mika anyway .
Does anyone have stats on the matches ?

I thought the rules were terrible. I agree with calling ball & pocket and no slop but I think it ruins the game when you have to call safe so much and any missed ball is pretty much loss of game due to ball in hand.

there are many times when you can take a shot and play shape on the next ball & safe if you miss... important part of 9 - 10 ball strategy.

whatever they decide on it would be nice to have one set of 10 ball rules.

It might be a good idea to have a separate thread focusing on the effect of the rules. I'm curious as to what people thought too. It seems like some rules made for the short tourney races doing a better job of letting the cream rise to the top and some rules I think actually helped lesser players from what I understood of them. I'm not sure that I even know all the rules they were playing under.

I didn't get to watch much of the feed myself, a horrible feed the first night and I was working the next two days and just caught a few minutes here and there. I saw most of the final including all of after the bomb scare and have to say that Mika dominated Shane for that short time. A huge reward for great safeties in this format, this seemed to lead to more conservative play. I don't know if that is how it will be in the long run or just the players a little uneasy with these rules.

In theory, the bih rule, should creats more safeties, especially when a player has a marginal shot, but I didn't see that in any of the matches I WATCHED.

Maybe it's a fairly new rule on the DP scene and the players haven't adjusted to it yet, but I don't remember many games going past 3-4 innings or any safety battles.

I really didn't like the rule, it's just too penalizing.

I play a lot of shots trying to make two balls. Shooting at the next numbered ball and using the spin needed to carom the cue ball into another ball if it works with shape. Then there are the more common two way shots, shape for the next ball or safety on the one you are shooting at if you miss. I really like this dimension of the game and wish two-way shots could be called. I'm fine with getting rid of some of the luck but I would prefer to keep the range of skill shots we have now.

Guess I want to have my cake and eat it too! So what else is new?

Not even close. Mika acts like a cry baby when things aren't going his way, but his behavior doesn't even come close to that jag off Earl. Earl becomes belligerent to everyone including the fans.

The rules being played by were stupid. Putnam basically said they were, he said Archer thought they were, and Hohman said so as well, although being more diplomatic. A dumb rule to fix an issue that doesn’t exist. Just more bastardization of the rules.
 
I'd honestly brether deal with some antics than watch this moaning and groaning all day. That's just me though.

It's one thing if you wanna make sure the crowd/spectators know that you got a bad roll with a click flip of the hand. But 8 or 9 of them over a 3-4 minute span... we get it man.

Being top 5 in the world, winning 2 us opens in a row.. over 200 grand in earnings last year alone.. i'd act a little more content myself.
 
I really did not like the new rules, it changed the game too much. BIH on every miss was too much. An option to pass it back if they hook you without calling safe might be ok. Can you imagine how the NFL would suck with no luck involved, no fumbles, no tipped passes into interceptions, you could go on and on with every sport. If they want to make rules, then maybe concetrate on better sportsmanship and no sharking rules. Going from 9 ball to 10 ball was good, so some changes could be made, but listen to the majority of the players.
