table speed

i am going to look at a table this week , not sure what brand it is.
about table speed . if i shoot a ball at medium speed from head string
to bottom rail how many times should it roll up and down table?
i think its a 9ft. table . thanks, john

that has way more to do with the rails than the felt. you may want to judge
with a slow hit corner to corner ( diagonal) instead . a medium speed center ball shot is basic lag . ought to die on headrail

it is the rails i want to check . i am going to recover with new cloth.
little more speed than a lag shot. a firm medium shot i was thinking about.
2 rolls up and down table mabe a little more. i played on the table a few
years ago . just don't remember all about table . i think it played good.
i will find out this week . thanks , johnqbs

Not a mechanic, but I would imagine a medium hit CB should hit the head rail come back to the foot rail and almost back up to the head rail.....perhaps a little short of that would be ok.

For some reason...I like checking the three rail track on tables...both ways....Is it tracking true into the corner pocket....long or short....and is it the same both ways.

if you are buying the table for yourself , and not as a flip/resale or for use in a commercial room , and since you are going to be moving it and recovering it anyway , the (comparatively) low cost of replacing all 6 rails now will give you years of performance and enjoyment . no worries about dead spots , etc.
just a thought

Per the WPA table regulations you should be able to place the CB on the head spot and hit "firmly" at center ball while aiming at the foot spot and have the ball travel 4 to 4 1/2 times the table length on a 9' table.

Would hitting it firmly be like a break shot? I was wondering about my rails.

Thanks
Rob

your talking about a tournament table, most tables will get 3.5 to 4.25. Hit the ball hard, like your breaking, if you get 3.5 it doesn't necessary mean your cushions are bad, but the table will definitely be considered slow.

Are you counting every time it hits the head and foot rail or the cue ball traveling the complete table length (each time it crosses the foot spot)

Inquiring (i.e. Dumb) minds want to know....
