The Magnificent 7, AZB HELP needed please.

A big plan can be made smaller so I say you started off large but can easily go smaller!
How about tying it in to a event with a bunch of spectators there, like expo derby or open ?
fit the market demand :thumbup:there
Good luck
Its a good idea, I like the thought of the Open and I will look into it but I am not sure when it could be fit in to the schedule when people will actually be there to take part along with the players concentraiting on the actual play in the Open itself. Good idea though and I know others have suggested the same thing. Thanks

Valley forge expo is huge for amateurs and spectators
vender's would be potential sponsors and would use the players for marketing at their booths!!!

Nice Idea

I really like the idea of it.

Of course the price is the one big hindrance.

A few ideas that could help.

1. What advertising have you done so far, or planned to do? As well as magazines etc I think you should use the players to help you with this one. After all they will get a decent pay day out of this event. Offer their services to potential sponsors (a day at a booth at Valley Forge) or something like that. Get your own booth, raffle off a coaching session with one of the players as well as other things you can use the players for to generate sponsorship. If these guys are at these events or close by I am sure they will be happy to help to get the funding this event needs. Find out how previous pool schools (like the Alison Fisher one) went about promoting their events, who went? how popular were they?

2. Find out how much people are willing to pay (if its not 2500). If its 1500, then you need 20k sponsorship etc etc. Is it worth getting 28 players (effectively four per pro), rather than 20, this can help lower the price?

3. For me personally, even though I am sure hotel fees dont make that much difference to the overrall price (3 nights at 70 a pop), the fact that I have to pay 2500 and still fork out for hotel fees sits wrong with me. I guess it shouldnt as its a small add on in comparison, but i think a fee inclusive of hotel would be more acceptable for most people. (this is a minor point i know).

4. What else can you offer people? Of course the main attraction is the weekend, but what else could you offer people (maybe at other pool weekends) that would add value to the package and not cost you a whole lot.

Good luck and I hope it works out for you.

I hope you make this work. Go after the market that has money. Make it very exclusive. A great destination. Pro golfers, nascar drivers, and even movie stars love pool. How cool would it be to have Shannon Dalton and Tony Stewart playing doubles with Keith and Davis Love III? Get 3 or 4 players that have great personalities and match them up with the celebs. in Palm Beach. I know this is a little off the wall and not the direction you were going in but pool players don't want to spend the money. Best of luck with your project.

If you have a fee that includes the hotel, then locals will be looking for a discount. Not sure this is a good idea.

The ABC's of the addicted

We all know there's 3 things players are addicted to (well, 4 if you count AZB, lol). They like to bet, they like to sweat and they like to play. I hadn't revisited the itineray to see how much opportunity is availed for these 3 addictions. But, I think the more opportunity you provide so they can bring out their roll, the more appeal there will be. Create a betting atmosphere for those that are motivated by that.

Some people may be more attracted to the lessons, or the story telling, or whatever. But introducing a gambling element may help to further chum the waters.

Regardless if you can pull this off Mark, this pioneering effort will surely help you (and others) better understand market dynamics. Best of fortune going forward. Matt

BCA Nationals

Hey Mark,

You know that I applaud your efforts & I think this is a really great idea.

As others have already mentioned - how about at a venue that is already happening. I also think that DCC, US Open, etc would be a burden on your guys because they will be trying to compete in the events.

How about BCA Nationals where they would not be playing unless they want to participate in the opening pro events of 9 ball & 10 ball. In that case you could do it after those events are completed. You could use the room that was set up for the pro events.

You would have THOUSANDS of amatuers already in attendance who have already paid for their travel & rooms.

Maybe forget the "lunch and/or dinner" with the M7 but maybe do a "cocktail" hour in the room where everyone can just walk around and talk with each other.

Definitely the "lesson" time and the "pair up" to play a set with one of them against another "pair".

Could this lower the price any ??

Meeze :)

Denver is where all the cool people are! It is a great lineup in a great room. I cannot give any recomendations on how to run an event like this as I cannot really remember seeing one before. I wish you luck and hope it works out. I would really like to see it happen. Chris.

Thanks Chris, Yeah there has been other events that have taken place with a number of big name pros but never this many BIG names so its new to everyone I think. This is why its all a learning experience good or bad. Thanks for your support though,

Mark,

You da Man for your forward thinking on trying new ideas to help the legends earn a living and bringing them close to a select few. I think your idea of the Mag 7 can work, but probably not marketed to the pool players in this forum. I believe you could get what you're asking if you targeted maybe the entertainment field and other groups that have mucho money and like to rub elbows w/royalty. Maybe Joe Rogan and others could help w/intros.

Here's a suggestion: what if you made a nice dvd of the Mag 7 telling their stories and interacting w/each other - you know, show their personalities. You could sell them to the masses, and use them for promotional pieces to package a nice presentation to affluent groups looking for unique entertainment: Heck, I would buy one just to listen to those guys and be able to keep it.

The dvd would do a couple things: it would generate some cash from its sales so participants can get a little money sooner, but used for the bigger picture to help sell your idea to let people who may not know these guys as well as we do, get a glimpse of what a great time they will have if a group of 20 would pay for them to get a close up and personal "semi-private" weekend. If you are able to sell the idea once, you get some quotes from the attendees about how great it was and you are off and running.

If the Mag 7 need to play a little and practice for a day to get an idea of what to talk about, they can come to my basement in CO ;). I will only charge them $100 each :).

Keep up the good work, I hope you find what you're looking for, the legends of this game deserve to make a little money for their life long of great play.

Thank you for the input and ideas, I am working on a couple of things as we speak to make things better and more affordable and once we get it off the ground the DVD will follow shortly after. Thanks again,
Mark,

I think it's a fantastic idea and would love to be there. Unfortunately in the current climate I just think $2,500 plus travel is a bit steep. As many people have mentioned earlier it maybe that positioning this at an event that is already taking place maybe a better alternative and you maybe able to lower the cost slightly.

If I had the money to spare I would already have booked, I have no doubt that spending this amount on this event would prove (for me) to be a better bet than buying a Custom Cue for that sort of price.

On the other hand, when I win tonights Mega Millions Jackpot, I will buy all remaining spots because it's an awesome concept and one that will live with you forever, long after you can't or don't want to pick up a cue ever again.
