Is it worth it?...

have you checked the pawn shops to see if you might find a shaft that will fit your cue before you go off on a new one.

If you were happy playing with the shaft that cue came with, it will be a lot cheaper to just buy a new cue.
Unless you can find a source that will sell you an original shaft, a custom shaft will end up costing you at least $90-$150.

Well basically I'm not sure if it's actually worth the money to buy a new shaft for my cue or to just get a new cue altogether.

Here's what I play with.. http://www.billiardwarehouse.com/cues/action/act54.htm

First what is wrong with the shaft you have?

There is nothing wrong with your cue if it is straight and you like it. The list price is kinda middle of the road for Asian Import Cues, and it is well worth what you paid for it if it stays straight.

However, if the shaft is broken or warped you may want to buy another cue. If you choose to buy another cue, give brands that have some kind of warranty some thought. Many American and some Chinese brands now have a warranty, just read the fine print and make sure that the warranty covers warpage if not fine one that does.

I just got a PM not to long ago from fisher cues about shafts.

The shaft I have now is too thin form me, I bought this cue a couple years ago and my hands were smaller so the shaft was comfortable then but not now. I just started playing again a two months ago after not playing for a couple years so the shaft feels a lot different now. It doesn't roll perfect but it's not in bad condition (IMO).

If you like the handle you have and it is still in good order, you can look at getting an aftermarket shaft for your cue.
Granted the aftermarket shaft will be more cost than another import cue,but it will play very well for you.
I have seen $20 cues with Predator shafts before.

I have a stealth with a real nice 5/16x18 shaft on it. 4.3 oz with a small pilot, single nickel ring with black phenolic. Very generic collar. I'd let the cue go for $35 plus shipping. I also have a nice three piece sneaky pete with a 5/16x18 pin that has a great shaft with micarta ferrule if interested.

Almost all the cue makers here have cues for sale.

It was my understanding (of the rules) that are not allowed to solicit sales or quote prices here.

more like $90-$300+

i'd go ahead and buy a different cue. no sense buying another shaft that'll cost you more than the cue does

If Billiard Warehouse can order you a new shaft reasonably, then that would be fine, but the cue itself would cost you less than a shaft from a custom cuemaker would.

I have an old Heubler I got from a fellow AZ'er. It needed a new shaft. Paid very little for the cue. Had Kevin Varney make me a new shaft. Good lord does this cue play now. Plays better than the original Heubler shaft. If the butt is straight I'd get a good shaft made for it. A young lady on my 9 ball team has an Action butt similar to yours with a Predator shaft. It plays well indeed. Send the cue out and have a shaft fitted to the butt. You'll be glad you did. Then save up for a low end custom cue. You'll be happy you did. JMHO
