Looks like it's that time again. I guess I'll have to practice more than once a week... So, who qualified this past weekend? Who's going to Tampa? Who has a good story about the qualifiers? Who cares?

Eric

Fort Collins, CO held a qualifier this weekend at Match Up's. 4 men qualified for Tampa but I only know 2 of them: Carl, owner of Amsterdam Billiards in New York, and Nelson (forget his last name) from CO. Nelson had won a big APA singles title last year and is a very good player. Nelson had a nail biter of a final match w/Mark from CO Springs, hill hill where the balls clustered up after a good break so a lot of safety play.

Only one lady would qualify - and Samm Diep won the ladies division. As mentioned in a previous thread, Samm saved her best play for the finals starting off w/a flawless 1st 4 games to get out to a commanding lead. She played a very solid player from Aurora, CO but I am too old to remember her name, sorry. But I believe the best two players made it to that final match.

Good luck to all the US Amateur National contestants.

I am pleased to say that I will be returning to Florida for the second year in a row. Somehow managed to breeze through my qualifier wining my matches 7-0, 7-2, 7-5, and wining the final 11-6. I can't wait to get back out to Tampa again. After playing so poorly last year I'm in need of some retrobution. See you out there!!!

If it is Carl Yusef "the Worry-er" Khan, then, AFAIK, he doesn't have any ownership stake in Amsterdam Billiards.

Eric

As far as I know, and I do know almost everything, NO. So I'm stumped.

results from the qualifier at Amys Billiards in Stuart, Florida:
Men's qualifiers:
Raymond Linares
Matt Holland
David Uwate
Jordan Tavano. his mom was pretty happy when he won double hill in finals.

Women's qualifier was won by the room owner herself, Amy Poulter.

1st time to Tampa.......Just!!!

Well, I pretty much walked through to the finals in CT undefeated (bye, 7-3, 7-0, 7-4) and then won a nail biter final 11-10. Guy was on-the-hill and I needed 4 and I managed to pull it out of my a**. Came down to final 3 balls after a few safes, the other guy missed a pretty easy cut the 7 and I managed to get out from there.

NJ/NY qualifier:

Women- Kim Meyer

Men- Dennis Feliciano, Tim Edmonds?, Ed Hugh, Eric Hu, Paul Everturn and 1 more qualifier

I guess that's right, he only introduced himself as Carl. He is originally from England I think. Same guy?

Yes, thats Carl. I'm 99.999999% sure Carl is not a part owner of Amsterdam. He does play there though. I guess that counts for something.

I've been working 60 hour weeks so I couldn't even make it to the qualifier. Maybe next year

I qualified in Atlanta by edging out Joseph Cole 11-9 in probably one of the most fun and challenging matches I've ever played in. The others that i can remember are Amy Chen, Wai Pang, Ricardo Nixon, David Cantrell and i believe Jeff Hooks and Tyson Allen. There were 4 other guys and one other lady that made it but can't remember their names.

I know of 2 guys from Greenville SC that made it thru Nick Van Allen and Mike Wise.

Thanks for the update. Was one of the other guys Harry Perrine? He is a solid player and a good sport. Was hoping he qualified.

Sorry just don't remember. A few matches finished well before mine did and some of the winners had already left.

I would like to add the sportsmanship at this tournament is outstanding every year. Definitely my favorite tournament of the year.
