And I hope to see your ugly mug at the next tournament in November.
And bring Dickerson with you, unless he already moved to SC.

Back to the turny format I noticed the mezz tour has gone to sun one day turnys with some success , I think in today's economy one day turnys offer a better bang for the buck because lodging and expenses
Its just something to consider if u cheat the start time up earlier u may be able to squeeze a lets say 50 field in , a 64 board would be hard to get in in a day but a smaller one should fit I think most players would like to get it done in a day for the dollar value, I would be interested in others responding to this so we can get a solid base of players in our area that would attend on a regular bases with a few guest appearances along the way
just a thought
Mark
There is a major problem with the one day format used my Mezz. They rarely play a final match. From the results I have read, most of the time the final two in Mezz tournaments split the money and they don't play a final match. From a fan's point of view, that sucks.
Room owners host tournaments for many reasons. Most of the time it is a money loser for the room, except for food and drink sales. Extra fans coming to watch, even if they don't play, can add income to the room and the room owner may be more inclined to host more tournaments. As a fan, I know I would hate watching a tournament all day only to have the final two split the money and leave. I certainly wouldn't go to a second tournament at that room.
If we can do these little things to help the profit margin of room owners, they may be more inclined to host tournaments.
If you want to run a tournament in one day, that is fine but you have to limit the field. Larger fields require two days. No one wants to watch a tournament from 9am to midnight only to see second rate play, because of the long hours, and a split.
Thanks for the great feedback Rich and Mark!I have been paying a little attention to that and that happens most of the time because they know one another , thats not a new practice and some tourneys require u to shoot that match ,
I do think Curtis has a great understanding of what pool players want in our region and he will know when its time to go to 2 day
I dont see to many day 2s any way so it makes little difference but at some level to attract as I would say some guest appearances a one day squeeze offers the better bang for the buck hell if he run in line with mezz they can win money sat hit the road early and cash on sun, 2 checks one weekend whats not to love, boy I wish I was 25 again:smile:

Thanks for the great feedback Rich and Mark!
I did speak with Rick about this and while a 2-day tournament would be slightly lucrative for Big Daddy's, it won't be possible at this time because Sundays are busy with kids' matches and the weekly one-pocket tournament.
Truly, when the kids are out in force that place is like a Chuck E Cheese with pool tables!
I would not want my top 16 players to endure that during the money rounds of a weekend-tournament.
What Mark had suggested was in line with what I had planned from the beginning...to establish a regular group of attendees, keep the price range the same ($45 is harmless to most) and keep it locked to one day.
When this particular tournament becomes more popular, and more regular, I will consider changes...but one thing I have learned over the past two decades is that pool players, regardless of age, background, skill-level...like consistency.
Stay tuned for the next tournament announcement in November!
And Rich...I will never allow anyone to split prize money for this tournament. You came to play...so play...![]()
Good for you Curtis. That is the proper way to run a tournament. I look forward to future tournaments. And Rich...I will never allow anyone to split prize money for this tournament. You came to play...so play...![]()
