Around here-outside of Manhattan, pool is 75% Hispanic. Chase them away and a lot of places are going to close.
Please note i did not offer an opinion on the AZ law.
Our LAW SB 1070 is a Clone of the Federal Law on IMMIGRATION!
The difference is AZ will enforce the law.
The Northern Lounge was a nice little Bar with 5 Valleys, with good cloth, Clean Balls, and the Owner were "pool" people.
The May 2008 No Smoking Law Hurt the Bar business in GENERAL, the Recession is still going strong in Arizona.
SB 1070 did not effect this Bar, as it was not a HISPANIC BAR. mostly bar! Businesses in GENERAL In Arizona are hurting becasue the Money Give Away by the Obama admisistration has not turned around this recession!

There are quite a bit of pool oriented bars and rooms, Kolby's is the main action room, the others you can find small action here and there. I do think each has its own atmosphere and type of customers. Support pool so your rooms stay open people.I often wear a "support arizona" T shirt to plat pool in.
That aside, thanks to Lenny, I thought Kolby's was the only pool oriented bar in the Phoenix area. (tongue firmly in cheek)
Well the recession, and other factor are what made Larry & Marty give up, I spoke with him today, and hopfully some one else on the WEST SIDE will open a Pool Friendly little Bar with about 5 or 6 Valley's like the Northern was.
From 1980-1992 (8 Reagan years) National Debt went from 900 Billion to 4 Trillion!
The annual interest on that debt went from 75 Billion to 300 billion!
So much for understanding economics.
But this recession is the worst for all business's. The pool rooms that I frequent are way down and I just pray that they survive.
By the way it doesn't really make much difference which party is in power as Wall Street rules.
Read Michael Lewis's the Big Short a New York Times best seller. It will make you want to never leave the Pool Room where the physics of colliding spheres rules!
Phoenix Pool POOLOTICS was part of the problem. One Sports Bar not too far from the Northern did all they could to make life misriable for the Larry, and Marty. JMHO!
I don't even know what bar you are referring to but....I doubt they were intending to make anyones life miserable..
The bars have the same exact problem as golf courses and real estate in this town........There are WAY too many and at the same time the market is either shrinking or at best not growing.
It is a business 101 problem.....The supply and demand is all out of whack.
Well ADJUSTING THE RATING of Player a YEAR ago, did not help the RECESSION, as EXPECTED!!!!!!

Sadly you're wrong about that. There was definitely an unwarranted and just plain mean offensive by another establishment. But Cowboy is wrong about everything else.
I think the Rating Comettee Idea last year was to LOWER EVERYONE RATING, by ONE, they hoped this would stimulate business, it did not, but it was an idea that tried, and failed.

I still think it is more a supply and demand problem....and pool players are only a part of the demand...If I was a bar owner...pool players would only be part of an overall target of market share.
If you are a bar owner and only going after the pool player market...you are probably doomed to fail.
Although Larry is a pool player at heart....I seriously doubt he was ONLY targeting pool players.....but the target is getting tougher and tougher to hit.

Well Ken you can ask most any pool bar player on the west side what the deal was. Frankly, it was amazing to me what went on. But of course it wasn't the only reason that the Northern didn't make it. It was just the ugliest reason.
