Example of a feel shot

I had this shot come up in a tourney recently. I'm stripes, its my turn at the table. My opponent has no balls on the table.

CueTable Help

I ran out. This is a prime example of a feel shot. I put the 11 in the corner to the left of it. I ended with this.

CueTable Help

I banked the 8 into the lower side pocket.

Was kinda sweet.

If I had known I was going to get that shape on the 8B, I would have ducked on the 11B. I may be only a c player but even I hesitate to shoot
a shot unless I have a pretty good idea of what my next shot was going to be. Where did you leave the CB after you made the bank? Did you put any thought into that? Sorry to be so hard on you but I don't seem to see much feel here. Jut a couple of low percentage shots being made to beat the odds.

Assuming you were playing standard 8 ball rules and not some bar variation, you should have hooked him on the back of the 11 on the first shot, Second shot you play safe again while bumping the 8 a bit up the rail. Automatic win. He has to take a foul on the first safe or he sinks your ball and leaves the 8 hanging and even if he hits the 8 on the 2nd kick, you have the 11 hanging so you are guaranteed an out.

How'd you make the 11? (Guessing a kiss-in.)

What makes it a feel shot?

It was more of a squezze type shot/kiss shot. You have to know alot about spin, how balls work when on the rail.

It's a feel shot because (I hate to use this term but) there is no aiming system that can be applied to this shot.

Also, feel came into play in order to know how to stroke the shot in order to get the right amount of spin and the right about of speed to place the balls in a area not to far apart from each other.

Feel played a part in that I knew I could do it. I didn't think about how to make the shot. I just knew what I wanted to do and did it. I empited my mind and just shot.

Unless you practice this shot, it is totally a feel shot as is any shot you have never practiced or seen before.

It was a local tourney on 9 foot tables with tight pocekts and with standard rules.

Why play safe? Why give anyone another chance at the table?

I lost a match last week because I give up on a game in order to get to the next game. The guy breaks, makes the 8 and wins the last game in the match. I never got turn. BTW, I hate 8 on the break wins rule.

Also, the other person is thinking there is no way to run out from here. So, when I did run out, that kinda says, you better not take my shot making for granted and sometimes this add a little more pressure on the other person.

Why play safe?!

Coz there is less risk doing that than going for the double-kiss-carom-bank-slide-hope for shape on the next ball- bank!

Guaranteed- you take 20 pros and 0 of them shoot that shot the way your did if they are playing for anything that matters.

Just so you are aware of it, just because you don't know how to aim it, doesn't mean that there is no aiming system for it. There is, and it has been posted on here several times in the past.;)
Here's a September 2008 thread about "nurse" shots. I don't think the method described there really applies to a kiss shot from this angle - maybe this isn't the system you're referring to...

And here's a video posted in that thread demonstrating the shot:

Prove it. Show me.

Do not make statements like this without some proof. It does no one any good.

Oh, I must have known how to aim since I made this shot. It knowing the interaction of balls, spins and rails. It was really a carom with the 11 coming back off the 8 into the corner pocket. It was also the transfer of spin that also helped the 11 to go into the corner.

I've done nurse shots, but this was not one.

Thing is, there was no risk. I knew what was gonna happen after this shot. I can't explain how I knew, I just knew. Banks don't scare me. I practice them just for this reason.

Plus what you say is your belief not fact. There is no way you can make that guarantee or prove what you say.

Oh, you knew...that makes a big difference in what will happen!

My guarantee still stands. 100% money back too.

I think Dr. Dave uses the phrase "herding the ball" to describe similar shots in VEPS. I don't know whether he or Tom Ross originated it, but it seems more descriptive, imo. As mentioned in the thread you referred us to, "nursing" is term used in straight rail billiards for very soft shots resulting in minimal ball movement.

I have no idea of the history of the terminology, though.

The burden of proof is on you.

Give me the names of top 20 pros that you have shown this shot to and that say they would not have shot it the way I did.

Step up to the plate and prove your stance. If not then STFU.

Yeah, why play safe, I agree with ya! Swing for the fences every time. You never see pros play a safe right? Safety shots are for losers!!!! Hehe, good luck to ya.

Why play safe? Why give anyone another chance at the table?

Yet strangely enough in your other post with your ridiculous 3 rail shot you mention that you have strong safety and bank skills... Duckie is a great name for ya, you sure are an odd duckie.
