How is the metal clasp(?) put on the black chalk holding piece? Just wondering if it would rip out after long use.

That's a very good question. The vinyl is very tough, and the stem is basically a lag bolt that has a wide base on the inside. You would probably stretch the split ring before pulling through the box itself.

These look nice. They don't have to be the kind that has a hard pen like feel in the pocket. It would be even more "tactical" if it were the ones that can be broken apart and used as a rope or tie for something. I think they're called Paracords and can be found at http://www.wilsontactical.com/. Other than that, great idea.
 
Not to confuse things, these are made from paracord, and are a specific item meant for pool. I have one of the first ones made and like it a lot, it doesn't fall out of my pocket like the slick sticks do. I don't know why you would need to untie a product made for pool to assist you in the outdoors, but it's possible i suppose. Good luck with that, i like it for what it's meant for.
 
Can you post pics of the chalk opening? Also, can you make them with a monkey's fist on the bottom?
 
I can make these in your favorite sports team colors as well. Rather have an 8-ball instead of the skull? I can do that too!
