GB v CTE Showdown time

Well, I think its that time. Time for a showdown of the user's of these two systems.

The players will be chosen from those that have been active in the CTE is silly thread. How this choice is made and the number of players is TBD.

Like in the Classic Pool series, there will be three games played-9 ball, 8-ball, straight pool to 50 or 75.

Location is TBD.

The bottom line will tell all.

This is really meant to be run a friendly, fun set of games. This is just a way to show that the systems really don't matter as much as the player and gives everyone a chance to see both methods in action and at the same time ask questions in real time.

Any takers?

It's an easy test.
Line up the shot and put the cueball where it's going to be upon contact using the two system.
Which one lines up the two balls to the pocket more often, wins. :D

FIGHT! FIGHT! FIGHT!

Don't mind me, I'm just egging people on. :-)

Here is my contribution to the thread

If it were a fight like you suggest it would be no contest...neither would win..

You see CTE can't "see" the Ghost Ball...so how could he hit him....Ghost Ball has no bones so therefore can not make a proper pivot in which to throw a punch and accuratly hit CTE.

The two of them should really just forget about the fight and go have a beer together...:)

I am in. But how can you know the CTE users aren't using Ghost Ball? :-)

Well for that matter...how do you know the Ghost Ballers aren't using CTE?

Ditto. The point being that arguing that a method cannot work and is impossible is ridiculous when plenty of people are using it successfully.

No one says to their opponent, hey man what method are you using to aim?

Shane Van Boening says we are all wrong. On one of TAR's broadcasts he says that using the cueball to aim is wrong and that he uses the stick to aim.

Hal Houle told me in 2001 that certain pros use the stick to aim. I wish I'd listened to Hal more closely on that point.

Wouldn't you like to know what SVB was talking about? I would.

We are all here to try to be better players and have more fun playing. Why we put each other down over aiming systems is beyond me.

I think people that do put others down for the aiming system they use or more specifically, for their inability or unwillingness to give detailed instructions on the open forum, are jerks.

If someone comes here and says that they have a great way to aim and gives you a starting point then either try it or don't but don't give them grief. I mean the purpose is just to help people make more balls and have more fun.

When it's not fun to help people then the folks who have the information just stop giving it out.

I am all for some aiming system summits. Frankly I think that a day of a bunch of us getting together would be more productive than the past ten years of discussion.

Back in the RSB days we would get together at the Super Billiards Expo. And Fred Agnir one year held court on one of the bar tables and a bunch of us were crowded around watching him demonstrate various systems taught to him by Hal.

Now there will be an AZB room at Derby. Why doesn't someone organize and Aiming Clinic where the people who think that they know enough to present can show off what they do? Film it.

Honestly, let's stop talking and do things that are concrete. I for one am interested in any way to use GB that is better than what I know now.

I am SURE that I could learn from Duckie and you in that regard.

I do have some theory on stick aiming and how I apply it.......(I have probably combined pretty much all aiming methods into my own personal theory on aiming)

However the later bolded point in your post above is why I am no longer sharing personal theory......It is no longer fun.

I would much rather meet people in person.....I plan on some year attending the Derby and the US Open...It just schedule wise and financially just has not seemed to work yet.

If I could...I would travel the country and play in every main event I could find...even if it were just to go two and out.

So far I don't think there as a person on this board (that I have met) that thinks I am some kind of arrogant idiot or that has no clue about pool....Coco Cowboy does not count cause I have never acutally met him in person....but I know he pretty much despises me....If he were to have met me...he might think different of me...and me of him....I may soon get to meet his LizardLakes cohort George the Jump..cause I think Jerry has asked him to sub on our Wednesday night league team.

I think an experiment that will convince most pool players needs to be better designed and much more variables controlled. You can come up with experiments like this, but many will not accept the results..

One can have perfect aim, but the worse stroke in the history of pool and they aren't going to make a ball.
I couldn't agree more. If you cannot consistently deliver the cue ball to the mark, all of the aiming systems in the world are not going to help much.

There is no test, no experiment just a meet and greet. Maybe the word conference would have been better choice of words.

Just a time to share what both sides have to offer in a constructive way and not the bashing, which I admit am gulity of and not proud of either.

That all it is, nothing more or less.

But, I am not too surprised at the replies, either.

Stroke is the most important thing.

I teach 10 aiming systems on my dvd set and there are more than that.

A combination of systems is good way to go, coupled with a well trained set up and stroke... its better to plug a great stroke into any random aiming system then any random stroke into a great aiming system.

No doubt. His dvds are excellent. They are in depth and easy to view.

Best,
