Anyone ever seen this prop shot?

A friend showed me this shot several years ago, and for some reason I just thought of it again today. The prop is to just bank the ball back in the corner 1 rail. I took a few whacks at it, doing every trick I knew to shorten the bank as much as possible while avoiding the kiss, but I never even got close enough to catch the point of the 5" pocket. He pulled out his "prop" (yes there is an actual prop in this prop shot) and made the ball center pocket on the first try. Not sure if you would want to try to get a bet down on this one, since the mark is going to be very upset... for good reason.

Edit: yes, I'm sure on some tables you can probably shorten this one enough, but certainly not on the GCIV with 860 where he showed me the shot.

CueTable Help

I'll bite how do you make it? Do you jump the cue ball out of the way or something would that work?

That might actually work... jump and catch the just the top edge of the OB. But no, that's not what he did.

Without using a prop, could you potentially kick into the rail on the left, come off and skim the 9 and hit it cross corner to avoid the double kiss?

Might be the lowest percentage shot ever, but I think it could be done. Bet the one pocket fans would know...

If someone gave me that bet and then laid a "prop" on the table to help direct it in or something stupid I'd kill them. That's just as bad as saying "I bet you can't get the 9 in this corner" and when they miss it you just pick it up with your hand and put it in the corner and say "that wasn't so hard". Good way to get your butt kicked, heh.

The jump method certainly works. It's a bit difficult at that distance though. If the CB were a diamond or closer, it's easier to judge.

I'm guessing golf ball for the prop.

[...WEI table snipped...]

Aaron:

Actually, in One Pocket, assuming both players need that ball to win, there is a legal shot with no "props." The way to bank that ball towards your hole (bottom left, as viewed in the WEI table) is to kick into the short rail first, and have the cue ball "clip" that object ball in the face on its way out of the cushion. You do it just hard enough to have the object ball rest near your pocket, if it doesn't outright score, and the cue ball goes up-table.

As for the "prop" with an outright cross-corner bank, we're not talking about shoving a cue butt under the short rail to act as a "guide," right?

Has to be a straight 1-rail bank. Yes, there is a prop involved, but it is not used to guide the OB into the pocket. But you probably should be ready for someone to take a swing at you if you win money with the shot I'm talking about, LOL.

I think you nailed it, as far as the "prop" goes. I'd seen that shot in artistic pool (methinks there was even a "team trick shot" match on ESPN Classic recently where that shot was used, if I'm not mistaken). They used golf balls as cue balls to execute the 1-rail cross-corner banks.

The prop is...

Efren, you pull him out of your pocket, he puts his Efren Spin on the ball, it goes in.

Yes, "Efren Spin". One of the many things predicted to exist by Einstein in his general theory of relativity, and subsequently proven to be.

The funny thing is, I did not even notice your avatar when I said this :)

Yeah, I was gonna say I have seen that on one of the EPSN trickshot matches, since "prop" was heavily hinted. otherwise, the kick-bank is the only other option I've seen used for that shot.

Aaron...Without even reading the posts in this thread, I know the answer, because I use it all the time in my exhibitions. The answer is a golf ball or tennis ball. Either will easily bank the OB, with no interference from the "CB".

I agree!

Maybe have a graphic of Einstein's wild/crazy hair morphed onto Efren's face, and "shoebrush-ize" Efren's mustache?

Sounds like we should ask LeagueShirts or njhustler1...

What think ye?
-Sean

that is kinda neat... but alas I will pass. hey that rhymes!

meanwhile, does anyone else have a lot of trouble with the wei table? something about the program never seems to be compatible with my computer.
