Do people really have an interest in how their case looks?

Function is way more important the looks to me anyway. At least today. I've learned what not to buy in a case. Hopefully the Wave I just ordered will fill the bill. Down the road a real nice looking case might be nice. But I'd rather put that money in a cue.

A little bit, I mean, I'm not going to carry my cue in a supermarket plastic bag.

I like a good balance of practicality, protection, and looks. Though I don't mind receiving a free custom cue case....hint hint.

I have a Jack Justis from 1995 that is the baby brother to Efren's. I think he must feed his better or something cause I keep checking and mine just won't get any bigger than a 2x4.....

Carrying the Justis into a new room will always get a few looks and usually in short order someone will make there way over to me to see if I wanna do something...

Carrying a nice case tends to indicate that you take the game pretty seriously and shelling out a few bills to advertise that fact makes sense to me.

Sadly a player's case usually to me is more indicative of the player than the cue they pull out of it.

Decorating cases is as old as time. People decorate their weapons and the cases that hold them for a variety of reasons. The simplest reason is to easily and quickly be able to distinguish yours from the next person's.

People like to have something unique that fits their personality, they like to have something that reminds them of milestones in their lives. The like to reward themselves for reaching goals.

I have made cases for people which have very deep meaning for them. I have made cases for people who just want to have something whimsical or different.

People like the idea of being able to see their fantasies made into reality and I am one of the few people on Earth who does this type of work.

My own personal case is a simple blue leather case. I like it this way.

But the owner of this cases likes his to be a little more ornate,

Nothing wrong with that as he can afford to indulge his ideas.

Most of the cases sold by Sterling Gaming look like this;

But if someone wants to be a little fancier then they go to this;

To each his own right? Would you really want to live in a one flavor world? Isn't it a little cool to know that there are people in the world who will pay someone else to make them a high decorated case to compliment their cue art?

This is my new favorite case and the one I will be making for myself for Christmas. It will have a little decoration on it - an abstract nine ball set that I designed in 1993 and put on the case I built for myself back then.

When I came to AZB I was amazed to see people caring about designs on their case. Some cases don't even have storage space for other supplies.

It honestly reminds me of highschool when we cared what our backpacks looked like.

I'm not complaining, it's just odd. I think pool is the only game where some people like to design their storage cases.

I mean, once I win a few US Opens, then I'll worry about cosmetics.

I guess you could live in a house with plain white walls.

But that would be boring, now wouldn't it :-)

You've got a point.

I've considered playing with a bright pink cue to shark my opponent.

Actually people already do that. Aaron Czetli had Jacoby make a pink and white candy cane cue for that purpose exactly.

Back to cases and "pink"

Once upon a time I was out in Vegas and set up with my giant gazebo booth and way up top I had a white and pink leather 3x7.

A lady walks up and asks if she can see the case. So I get the ladder and get it down and show it to her. "How much?" she asks, I say it's $389.

Without hesitation she reaches in her white and pink purse and pulls out a hunk of green and peels off four bills and buys it.

Then she reaches in her pink nylon cue case and pulls out a $25 pink cue and puts it in this 3x7 white and pink leather case.

Two of the diamonds on her fingers were bigger than my eyeballs.

True story.

Although I find it strange to see some cases with elaborate designs, but no room to hold other supplies. Maybe they have secret compartments.

Some do;

I once made a case for a man who wanted a secret compartment to hold "about a kilo of sugar".

I called it the 007 Case.

Here is another one:

Not so secret but just a different way to use available space.

More ideas that leave the other Casemakers playing catch up.

I would hate to think what would happen if that kilo of sugar broke open ... think how sticky his cue would get! ;)

Custom Cases

A custom case is like a custom cue,its not a sign of your level of play,but more like the size of your wallet............I mean if you have money and are
retired,no problem.

I don't think expressing yourself by having a case designed to your specification is like high school at all. I suspect that having a case designed is no different than buying a custom cue that will go inside that case.

Trust me, when I build a secret pocket for a kilo of sugar then there is no chance that even a granule gets out of it. :-)

Cue protection comes before sugar protection for me.

:-)

I look at my case when I grab it, and I look at the cue when I screw it together. I personally like a nice looking case and cue.

Plain case, plain cue. I do care to a point. I wouldn't want to shoot with a hot pink cue or carry a pink flowery case... If they were all the same price I'd probably go with a more elaborate fancy cue/case, but I'm too cheap to spend the money. :)

I like your "new favorite" as well. It has a nice retro, "boxy" look that is plain, yet unique....

Is this one of yours?
