Appleton: We are better players than Americans...

ur a goofball 2 how about that!!!! and so is ROY!! darren is a clown and i really dont care if he is a PRO or not ok. My opinion so never tell me what i can say. and i got ur immaturity ok let me tell u.lmao

LMAO!! This has to be quoted to save it for posterity. Nothing needs to be added or commented on. Thanks for doing all the hard work! :D

Nothing needs to be added or commented on :D I like that. It fits perfectly here!!!!! :D

Come on now Roy. Darren does gamble and quite a bit. Let's call a spade a spade.

Darren (Europeans) are more tournament soldiers than gamblers.

Yes, he does gamble, but not as good as many Americans. In tournament format, he's better than them, imo.

As of the comments from SJM and John Schmidt, great posts, and very true.

The top-top-players can beat anyone on any given day, no matter what country they come from. Except the Filipinos and Taiwanese, they win a little more often

Congrats to Team Europe and their fans!

Roy:

Congratulations, my-friend-across-the-pond! And congratulations to all of Team Europe and their fans -- this coming from a Team USA fan, who humbly offers it!

And congratulations to Appleton for MVP!! (Interesting thought, by the way -- "Now who's the clown?" ;) )

Offering a toast to all of Team Europe and their fans,
-Sean

I second the toast. The European players simply outplayed America this time.

(Wait until the European players have to face those New Yorkers) :D

That's a fact, Joey! "Here there be monsters..." :p

-Sean <-- quotes Bugs Bunny: "Monsters are such eeenteresting creatures... now let's dip our patties in the water... KA-POW!!" :D

Well this week Darren was right. Last year at this time he was wrong. Hopefully next year he'll be wrong again.

Obviously I was rooting for Team USA even though I love the play of all players involved. The enthusiasm Darren Appleton displayed was nothing short of awesome....I love seeing a player fired up like that even if it's while beating a team I am rooting for. Heck next year I'd like to see some gray beards in there like Archer, Strickland, Sigel, Hatch and SVB.

One thing that I would like to see changed with the Mosconi Cup is to have it be 9 ball the way it is and 14.1 singles only. It would consist of a possible total 16 - 9 ball matches and 5 - 14.1 matches. The reason for the 14.1 obviously has to do with the name of the Cup. The way to break it up would be that once a player played a 9 ball match they would have to have their next match at 14.1 until all 5 matches were played.

Hahahaha. Time to eat your words you idiot. How long have you been playing this game? Inspired by the potential of the IPT (where he finished 7th in the opening event) Darren started playing competetively around 4 years ago . In those 4 years he's won:

- BCA 8 ball Grand Masters
- 2 Euro Tours
- World 10 ball
- World Team Championships (as Captain)
- World Pool Masters
- US Open 9 ball

This is a record Jonny, SVB etc. would be proud of.

And now to add to that Darren just played what was probably one of the most perfect sets of pool ever seen in a Mosconi Cup and his sensational performance rightly earned him the MVP. Thats the real truth. You're on a different planet.

Funny thread. Thank you Team Europe for proving a point

This thread will fade away in silence...

lol you don't see any of them trying to gamble with the usa players....shane destroyed mika at mika's best.....darren got crushed by hatch and corey would do the same.......and all of europe needs weight gambling with archer.....even the phinos don't like that idea....archer for the cash is still on top imo.....the cup is a joke for judgeing player talent.....put 50k on the lights and let them try a long race to 100 against our boys....hell two of the mosconi cup players for europe wouldn't hold against ten of our shortstops in the same format......henny, bartram, mills, the list goes on.....no buddy europe is not on top.....only they belive that.....the likes of alex, bustamante, orcullo still hold that with us right behind....and lets not even talk about wu from taiwan.......ralf and mika are good players....I don't belive darren to be in the same catagory .....yet....maybe......put the cash up and see who is best......lets make the euro's put up 20,000 of there own money and let them play long races to 50 against our boys and see how it turns out.....

And one more thing.....I think only one man on the planet may be able to step up to john schmidt in an all around.....thorston....maybe two...... alex if he is on....last I check js is from the good old usa.....john I really thought you should have been on the team this year.....

Actually, Mikko, I'm still here. And I wish you (and all the Team Europe fans) a hearty congratulations and hold my glass out to you as a toast!

And is the World 10 Ball, World Pool Masters and US Open a joke too? Name a US player to match Darren's record (or Mika's for that matter) in the last 3 years.

lol...what a joke of a coment.....for the last three years...lol....ok what about the twenty before that......lol.....sorry buddy the records are still being held by usa players....the most world championships....us open championships.....and big tournys all around the globe...three years doesn't put you on top....when you have been on top as long as someone like archer or many other great us players we will talk.....until then your talking outta school.......bring your money over the pond and see what happens....if they are successfull then we will talk....and yes the mosoni cup is a joke as far as rating countries ranking in pool.....now bring a deccent argument to the table in your next reply....lol

I talk in the present pal, not the past. If this is what an Englishman can do in 3 years then I'd hate to see what your precious records look like 20 years from now ;)

Do you all not understand that it's just trash talk encouraged by the promoter?

At the end of the day all these guys like each other and hang out unless any one of them starts to take it all a little too seriously and become an ass.

All the players are encouraged to be nationalistic and whip up some fervor. It's part of good television.

For the most part. Anyway, this year they nailed it. I wish that they had something that included other nations like the Philippines and Taiwan. And I don't mean the two man "World Cup". I mean a team style event like this. Why can't the Mosconi cup have more teams?

Somehow I think that this would encourage people to play more.

The world team championships did this job and it was an amazing event this year. Team GB beating the Philipines in the final was one highlight but the incredible drama of the shoot-out win over China in the semi final was hard to beat. I think it went to 27-25 or something in sudden death - unbelieveable. So it just needs that event to continue rather than a change to the Mosconi Cup. Would be nice for Matchroom to take over the WTC.

No offense, but I were to think of a dominating European player it wouldn't be Daz or Mika......it would be Oliver Ortmann. Being a dominating player takes years (think Efren, Earl, Mike Sigel etc etc etc.) and Oliver Ortmann fits the bill of that more than any other European player. Mika and Darren are close to those guys, but not close enough. Not saying what Mika did last year wasn't remarkable, or what Darren has done the last few years isn't good. What I am saying is that it isn't quite that level.

*edit* Count me as biased because Oliver is one of my favorite all time players.

Actually as far as gambling goes I think Darren has posted a standing invitation to ANYONE in the world to come to England and play for $50,000.

No one is barred, not Efren, not Alex, not Dennis, not Shane, no one.

And NO ONE has stepped up to play and no one WILL STEP UP to play. Seriously.

I think it's pretty clear to everyone in the world that Darren Appleton is the real deal as a pool player. That he is from England is just lucky for England. Big deal. He's world class as many players are. And it's not as if he just started playing four years ago. He was playing English 8 ball long before that.

Darren's got a lot of game and he is a rare talent. He has emerged as the best of the top English players and rightfully assumed his place among the world's elite. If he were not as "good" as any other player on Earth then those players would have the backing to go up against him for the 50k in England. It's a coin flip at best and the rest of the world knows it.
