Funny One Pocket Situation

We were playing a friendly match of one pocket and ended up in a funny spot. It was my safety. Though I have to admit that hooking the cue ball with the two and and the five was intentional, the seven ball was just a bonus. :-)

My opponent escaped from it, but I was wondering whether it's even possible to make a legal shot from here. (The two ball isn't touching either.)

That would be a great situation for a high speed camera like they have in American football. Go straight to a booth review after the attempted shot.

If I were handed this situation I would intentionally foul (since I can't see how not to from the picture) and send the 2 or 7 to my pocket's side of the table (even if it's up table).

There are at least four techniques that you could apply here: The fist-smash-the-rail trick, where your grip hand is stopped by running into the rail; the palm slap, which gets minimum forward motion on the stick; the forward grip, which lets an extended pendulum stroke stop the stick; and the near-vertical masse, where you get the table to help you to stop the stick. I think each of them could work, but none of them is certain, and none is likely unless you have practiced.

I would advise against this particular method. My hand still smarts after tryng this a few years ago.

I've found that after about the 20th shot your hand stops hurting. Be persistent. The scarring is unsightly, though.
