Glasses to contacts (or surgery)

Thanks for all the replies, good info to mull over.

Did not know about the molding procedure before, it does look like it's for fairly mild cases, and one of my eyes is really nearsighted. I can't even read text on a monitor at over 3 feet with my left eye without glasses. The other eye is almost perfect.

I got my billiard glasses just before Christmas. I have tried them out twice now. They are well made for the money and are very light, you almost don't know you have them on.
It sure cleared up any hazy spots on the far end of a table.
Of course, if you don't mind looking like Elton John while you're playing.
They actually don't look half bad.

The layer they reshape in Lasik, is far too thin in my eye. According to my eye doc, he told me there just enough enough material to reshape.

I'm only 25, but I wore glasses my entire youth. My eyes were used to that 'way' of seeing. Then when I got into middle school I got contacts. WAYYYY clearer but took longer to adjust to. For reference, my vision prescription strength for contacts is -10.5 in each eye. Nearly legally blind. Lots of playing NES too close to the tv, lol. For example, if I wanted to read the ingredients on a Coca Cola bottle, the bottle would have to literally be 2 inches from my face.

So to get to the story, lol, I couldnt afford contacts about a year ago. I did have a pair of up to date glasses and had to shoot with those. It took me a while to adjust to shooting with glasses. I played terrible, especially when trying to thin cut a ball near a rail. Then when I could afford contacts I took a whole day to just shoot, to readjust.

I can say that contacts are the way to go. I love'em. Thats what I wear now. I only wear contacts to play pool, or to work. Rest of the time is glasses, unless I get lazy.

i play in contacts and cant play with glasses, i can but its no fun. i thought about the eye surgery for a long time. i have really sensitive eyes, especially to bright light, and i just had a bad feeling about it so i passed... why mess up a good thing (contacts) that is assuredly not gonna cause u any long term problems was my line of thought.

i also have some GOOD info from my eye doctor on this subject. she told me that so many people are going to laser treatment centers, that she has to REALLY treat her customers very well now (not that she always didnt), as in going above and beyond. she always lets me try on multiple brands of contacts after my subscription is filled, to make sure im comfortable and get the best ones. for me, one day accuvue are the best, focus aqua comfort dailies are like 2% behind them, so close..... so i go for the focus dailies cus they are cheaper and about the same comfort for me. hope that helps! good luck

Lasik is certainly an option and there are many many happy people, however, i know a guy that i used to bowl with that had his eyes done and he now cannot bowl or work or drive a car, certainly the exception. Contacts are a way to go, unfortunately, i cant do them as my right eye is an unusual shape and cannot be fitted. I wear bifocals and can actually play better (and do) without my glasses. Most of you that wear bifocals know of what i speak. BTW, contacts can actually improve your vision as they somewhat reshape your eyes and thats a plus for contacts. Please do a lot of research on the different "Lasik" methods as there are differences between the procedures. The internet is your friend.

good point, i was gonna go the prk route myself if i got the lasik. it is a better procedure imo.

Glasses to surgery

Two years ago I had interocular lenses implanted in both eyes. Everything is now crystal clear BUT beyond 7 feet there is double vision on the balls. Have spent a ton of money on glasses to correct this without any luck and am forced to play by focusing with only one eye. One persons experience for what it's worth.

With such a difference between both eyes, glasses can be cumbersome. I use contacts to play pool... glasses to work (computers). My eyes are both similar (-3 and -3.5) though.
Try contacts first and see how they go for you... daily contacts have been much better for me because monthly ones tend to accumulate particles that make my allergy worse.
I have nearsightedness and some astigmatism so I use torics ("focus dailies for astigmatism - ciba") and my sight is extremely good with them. I have tried several brands and, to be honest, it is amazing how different they can be not only in wearability but specially in terms of visual acuity.

A big difference between glasses and contacts is that contacts show you life in real size while glasses make things smaller (for nearsighted).
Find an specialist and let him know the intended usage.

I had glasses and played better without them than with them. Distortion, glare and just darn uncomfortable.
Then I got contacts and the eyes would hardly stay wet enough to stay open long enough to aim each shot.

I struggled for years with both until I finally hard eye surgery in 1996.

With the technology they have now it is rediculous to put up with glasses or contacts if they can fix your eyes.

But check around because they all do pretty good work but some are doing it for alot less money.

It's the best thing I ever did for myself and my pool game.

Have a great day geno...........
