USPPA Reno players, did they get paid?

...I can only respond based on my own experience, of course, but my experience tells me that requiring players to stay at a host hotel is still very much in practice.

I think promoters go too far when they try to squeeze the last dollars out of the players. Every promoter has the option of kicking back the room rebate to the players. I have seen many threads here where people complain about how expensive it is to travel to events and that the prize money they get in return is not a fair enough return for them compared to what they have to lay out.

Fran, welcome to the forum. I look forward to seeing you post more. :)

I hope it turns out I get the cash. He and I have played many times and it goes back and forth.

If I win because Dave got me in stroke, I'll send him a jelly roll (I'll play golf again).

You know the golf table is always open for you!! Hope to see you and Jeff at the tournament in a couple of weeks. Maybe we can get a good $30/3 golf game together!!! Say hi to baby for me.

John, see you tomorrow at Hard Times, still waiting on the 5K, but I feel it coming soon.

Jeff, I hope you recieve that check. You and all the players deserve to be paid!!!!!! When you get a chance give me a call I have heard some interesting news I think you need to hear personally.

Chris

He has $200 more than he started with today. I had him stuck all day but he won the last four in a row.

No check yet but he still has a positive attitude about getting it.

I'll see him again tomorrow at the monthly one pocket tournament. John

One thing you have to remember about the USPPA, Tony Annigonni is an employee of the company. If you guys want your money, go after the owner. She has the deep pockets. All this stuff I have heard about it sounds like a hustle. Just a pool swindle. The worst part is, when someone else wants to put on a tournament in Reno, there are now two joints, the Sands and now the Peppermill that have burnt bridges. The idea that the gaming commission had anything to do with this is ludicrous. Last I heard, Tony was in Santa Cruz last week, threatening Al with a lawsuit. There are people that will buy your debt for $.30 on the dollar. Get your money while you can.

I just received a call about this latest post and in no way did Tony threaten me. I wish you would come to the source. I hate slander.

This thread is like a civil war in American pool world. I don't know any of the parties involved, only hearsay. In fact, I would venture to guess that the majority of responders on this thread only know hearsay.

OK Jen,

Here's my thought. By popular vote, Mark Griffin is "elected" pool czar. He does everything correctly till one day he makes a small miscalculation. How long do you think it will take the pro's, wanabee's and railbirds to rip him a new you know what??????? Doubt if anything would change. My guess is more people will want him to fail than succeed. Byproduct of todays society and culture.

Thanks for the birthday wish. Feel so much older at 66 than 65! My best to you and Keith for a happy and healthier 2011. Keep the great music coming. Don't know why, kept looking for Bela Fleck!

Its difficult, but I keep in mind while writing and going thru the threads....of people in the pool room I don't know/or want to know. There's always those we never associate with for many reasons, at times we listen to them in very small doses and that speaks for itself. Here on AZ they are able to be heard again and again. Hopefully they will learn from many here that its really not that bad and conflict eventually brings out the best in most us all. Too all those in need of change (good luck smokers:) Happy new year.

So sad

I just received a call about this latest post and in no way did Tony threaten me. I wish you would come to the source. I hate slander.

Wow, Al, your first post on az and it has to be to defend yourself.
I was going to respond to Kentucky for his idiotic post but since i knew you met with Tony I was not positive he did not mention something like a lawsuit as he has many times in the past with certain individuals.
Consider the source with Kentucky, the biggest mouth west of the Mississippi.
What I am amazed at is another big talker, Tony, does not try to explain what happened. He of all people knows he owes it to the "victims" in this possible crime. I cannot believe Jeff is taking it so lightly. I mean Tony did collect $9900 in cash, so where is that money? If I were involed I would be calling the higher ups at the Peppermill as they under their name guaranteed $15,000 added money. Now in conjunction with the USPPA tournament Tony also ran the Juniior tournament and the National Wheelchair tournament. I do not know if they had money pay outs forthose but I think they did. Does anyone know if money was paid for those two turnamentInquiring minds want to know? lol

From what I have heard, Those tournaments were paid by the peppermill, but that is second hand knowledge and until Tony comments, who Knows!!!!!! Its hard to say who is right and who is wrong, all I know is the USPPA tournament players have not been payed yet.

As a side note: The 2nd Annual Chet Itow Memmorial is on Jan. 15th and 16th with $3500 added. For more info go to californiabilliardclub.com. This event will be LIVE STREAMED. YES all money will be paid out at the end of the tournament!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How is what I said slander to you Al? Tony didn't meet with you in Santa Cruz? He didn't tell you to stay away from Bob and you're pool league? Why would I come to you Al about Tony paying off people. Would you tell the truth? The last time I called you was a courtesy call about Dave Burdicks memorial. You denied knowing someone who played at Eddies with all of us for twenty years. Then you went around behind my back complaining about my call. Three people came up and told me you complained about it. I promised myself you would never get a call from me. I guess that is slander, too. I could care less who Tony threatens or doesn't threaten. If he sued everyone he threatened, he would have a pack of lawyers on retainer. What's the matter Al? You have to try to shame me to feel better about yourself? Of course, you have THE DICK to stand up for you.:grin::grin:

will that be by check in the mail or......:grin-devilish:

The billiard community is amazing. As fans this board shows how great the billiard community is and how active they are in helping its players. Some fans just like to drink, talk and get photos but the fans here are working to ensure the players get the stated prize money.

We aren't gossiping about who is dating who or who got cheated out of a deal, and who got a signing bonus.

Here it is just the players need some support and we are trying to give it to them.

Rep to the AZ community for creating this space (Guys up the server so we can post vids).

As for the players who are extremely gracious and patient they are another marvel to spectacle at. Other executives and some athletes would have been all over the press for not getting paid on time, they would've been bad mouthing people left and right in the public because of the money they needed yesterday. That is good and bad.

This thread was not designed for you to take personal jabs at your peers, so try to stay on topic. I did have lunch with Tony a few weeks ago just after the Reno tourney. The bulk of our conversation was not about pool and the portion that was had to do with his plans, how pay pal is slowing down the peppermill payout process, and his gripes about the pool community. Not about threatening me or telling me or to stay away from Bob. I don't know what the truth is about the payouts but the mistake Tony is making is not communicating with the players. I'm sure he has heard about this thread so why not come out and set the record straight and put this bantering to rest.
No, I did not know Dave Burdick. The next time I saw Dick, I asked if he new him? He replied, " yes but that was before your time." Period!!!!!!!!!!! Why would I complain about your call and where did I shame you. GIVE ME A BREAK.
Slander is the defamation of character and by saying that he threatened me you make him sound like a thug with a 45 in his back pocket. This is all I have to say so don't use this forum for us to become pen pals. If you have anymore questions or delusions call me.

...Keep the great music coming. Don't know why, kept looking for Bela Fleck!

He's there. Check out the young Bela at Counter 3:01

If only the pool world could be like these folks: Working Together!

Of course, Earl will always be tops in my book. Check him out at Counter 1:38. :)

It's like comparing Garth Brooks to Hank Williams, Sr. :grin-square:

I like Hank and Earl best. :smiling-heart:

I am not sure what Lyn (Cardiac Kid) is referring to about Tony Annigoni's previous post "regarding this topic".

All I know is that Tony is an arrogant pompous ass.

He mislead players by saying there would be a series of events with $200,000 in payouts. It blocked the dates from others planning events. Then he just cancels it.

There is no excuse for what Tony did. He has been in the 'pool business' for 30 years or so. He runs the best events (if you ask him) but yet he cannot figure out how to pay the players? WTF?

I think he ruined the Reno tournaments - by taking 5 days to do a 3-4 day event.

This is the guy that would not allow us to use ball polishers because 'it would shrink the balls' and that the cloth was not Simonis.

He is on my short list of people that I WILL NOT WORK WITH. Anyone that has worked with Tony before will probalby agree with me.

There is no excuse for not paying the players.

But have no fear - ol' Tony A. will come up with a 45 minute speech as to why it all makes sense and is justified. The guy is off the charts.

Sorry to go off on him - but if you ever had to listen to his crap - you would know where I am coming from.

Mark Griffin

Only problem with Tony, diarrhea of the mouth.....we all know where the $hit$ come from. I went into business/poolroom with a man, identical character, I renamed him Dbl Barrel Dave, it was always difficult figuring out which side he was talking out of. I'm with ya Mark on this guy.

Bill,

The post I was referring to in Mark's comment was re-posted on this thread several pages ago. Tony made some comments that got my attention. Both for good and bad. Never thought about him speaking from both sides of his mouth before. Interesting analogy. The words trust and respect come to mind. He's lost both in my view. What else does a person have?
