Hello Pool Players. As many of you are aware, the Midwest Poolplayers Association (MPA) is teaming up with Shooters Billiards in Burnsville, MN this weekend to host a $1,000 Added Singles 8-Ball Tournament. There are 3 divisions to play in, based on individual ability. Please feel free to check out the flier on the MPA website - http://www.mpapool.com - and hopefully the flier will answer any questions you might have.
The first MPA tournament was hosted at CR's Sports Bar in Coon Rapids, and this event brought in 87 players even though we just had a terrible snow storm the night before the event. The first MPA-sponsored casino event was held at Black Bear Casino, and 447 different players were in attendance for either singles or team (or both), receiving record payouts for their efforts. The outlook for the weekend looks like it'll be fairly decent traveling weather, and I've already had calls and inquiries from players who are over 100 miles away, telling me that they're planning on attending.
For those of you who are not familiar with the MPA, the Midwest Poolplayers Association is a Minnesota Non-Profit Corporation that was established to promote pool through tournament and league play throughout the Midwest. League players pay a $7 sanction fee to become members of the association, and individuals pay a $15 annual sanction fee to become non-league affiliated player members. 100% of the sanctioning money collected goes into the prize funds of MPA-sanctioned events. The MPA matches up to $500 from the host establishment's contribution into the added money purse, allowing larger Added money events to be more affordable to the host locations. The MPA's goal is to provide great added money tournaments to participating billiard establishments, with hopes to boost the economy of the local billiard industry.
I invite you all to come out on Saturday and check out this tournament. I believe that you will see that the MPA is striving to provide you - the players - with some great added money tournaments and also challenge your skills by matching you up against other players of similar abilities. Let's enjoy the sport we all love to play! I hope to see you there! Stay Positive Everyone - our sport needs that right now! John Stich
