Ok folks. I have Master Chalk. I buy GREEN chalk since for some reason it seems to me to NOT color my shafts up quite as badly. Some people tell me that is bull, so, is it?

I hear about all these different Chalks.

Master
Triangle
Silver Cup
Blue Diamond
NIR Super Professional

Here is the question? Does it really make a lot of difference? I'd be HAPPY to spend the money on any of these if it will improve my game.

U have read a couple of thread on here about a specific chalk. How about a comparison of the best chalks?

Are there any other chalks that I should be looking at?

Any thoughts or help would be greatly appreciated.

I've never felt the need to stray from Masters. I make sure to always have one handy, in case I'm playing somewhere that has bad chalk (like Mizerak chalk)
 
I don't like Silver Cup chalk. I really don't have a good reason, I just don't like it... Although I like the box it comes in...

I use Masters chalk. My table has a tan color, so I use matching chalk.
 
Why not just try some of the different chalks available.

Find the one you like the best ~ for performance and cost.

And then just stick with it.

I normally use Masters Chalk Blue but the first time I tried Silver Cup Chalk I didn't like it and the reason why is I thought it was way to messy then i switched to Master Chalk Blue and I do like it now I did get some chalk from pool dawg when I ordered something from there and it's the Masters with a Black label and it seems not to stick as good as the red label , I have also tried the pre-flag masters and I like that alot but I just ordered Blue Diamond yesterday so I'll see how well I like it .

You just gotta find one that you like and stick with it .
 
I use blue diamond which is a bit pricey for chalk, I only bought 2 cubes in the beginning (7 bucks) but afterwards I'd have to say it's the best chalk I have used and will continue to use it provided I can afford it :thumbup2:

It goes on really smooth and stays on, I seem to miscue less and don't have to chalk up as frequently as when I would use master chalk.

I do use master chalk and its great except when I use master chalk I feel as though I have to chalk *well* before/after each shot.

In terms of blu-ing both chalks will eventually cause blu-ing but I've noticed it takes alot longer with the Blue diamond before the blu-ing on the shaft becomes apparent. I think it's because of the composition of the blue diamond chalk but when little excess bits of chalk get onto my shaft I can just blow or wipe it away without any blue being left behind.

Maybe it's all in my mind :shrug:
 
I use the green Master's Chalk and never had any problems with it. When I had my table covered with Simonis Tournament Blue, I ordered some Master's blue chalk. The blue chalk seemed to mark my cue ball more. Very few marks with the green. So I switched back to the green chalk. I wipe my shaft after every session quickly with a piece of Magic Eraser so I didn't see whether the blue or green is any different in leaving a deposit on the shaft.
 
Some chalk is better than others, but no chalk exists that will make you play better. Period.

Having said that, it won't hurt to try different chalks.
 
I have tried Masters, pre-flag Masters, Silver Cup, NIR, and Blue Diamond. I didnt feel or see a difference between any of them except Silver Cup (it doesnt go on very well.) That being said I will use all of the chalk listed except Silver Cup because I noticed no difference in any of the chalk except a couple made my hand dirtier, I dont know if that is a good thing or a bad thing. In my opinion the expensive chalks are a waste but the funny thing about pool is if you believe something makes (or helps) you play better you WILL play better.
 
Watch out, Blue Diamond will wear out your ferrule...

I use Masters. Works fine, never had a problem. Silver Cup is garbage, more miscues than ever with that crap and can't get good coverage on the tip.

I've tried a lot of them but Magic holds on the tip really well and doesn't dust up everything.

I remember leaving an unfortunate piece of masters in my bag and ended up with immediate smurf hands! Had to wash my towel it was so dusty. I hate smurf hands...
 
Thanks guys, well then, it looks like i will keep to my Green Masters chalk, which I like and works well for me.

Looks like given the chance, I will try others but stay away from Silver Cup!

I agree -- Magic Chalk for me. It's on the expensive side (but no more expensive than Blue Diamond), but it coats better than Master chalk, with only one or two swipes. And as poscdr09 says, it doesn't "poof" into a dust cloud like Masters, either. I have a little chalk holder on my belt (basically, a repurposed small cell phone holster from the dollar store; it has a flap with a magnetic clasp). I just reach in, grab my cube of Magic Chalk, swipe-swipe on the tip (two swipes, that's it!), put it back in the holster, and then shoot. It's part of my pre-shot routine, and I don't have to look at the tip -- I know it's covered well. It's funny when you trust a product and don't have to think about it; the pre-shot routine seems to have a rhythm to it -- "swish-swish... ka-clack! swish-swish... ka-clack! swish-swish... ka-clack!" :D

MAGIC CHALK for me also. One other point is how long it lasts. Everyone that I have given some too is very impressed as well...
