Hi Keith,
I have an old match on VHS with you and Harry Platis playing Ronny Allen 1 pocket and he was alternating shots one handed. I think it was an ahead match for like 10 jelly beans. My tapes ends short of the match ending!....I was just wondering how it finished?

Also I have another old match with Ronny playing Danny DiLiberto at the Golden 8 ball for the 1 pocket worlds in like 1988 maybe?, and they kept panning over to you in the crowd sweating the match with U.J Pucket and Ernie from Gina cues and Weenie Beenie. Do you remember that one?

Have a great day!..........Gerry

Me and Harry ended up winning one set. It's always fun playing with Ronnie Allen and Harry Platis, especially when we're betting it up. If you watch the video closely, you can see my old friend Jimmy Mataya doing his thing. After a game would end in the set, Jimmy would jump off his perch and start chirping at Harry like a canary, wanting to place his bet on Ronnie. It was a real three-ring circus.

I remember some of it. I always liked sitting by U.J. because he always had something funny to say. If it wasn't about a pool player, it would be about a fishing trip.

Jaybird, I'm glad to hear you made it through the storm all right! I heard Slidell did take a serious beating due to the hurricane. Is the pool room no longer there? I hope your family and you are all well.

Tommy has my phone number, but thanks for providing his. I think I will give him a call.

Keep in touch and let us know what's happening down there. Take care of yourself. :)

Ragbug, I think this match took place in Phoenix. Jay Helfert recorded it, and he'd probably remember the date a little better than me. Ronnie was yapping away throughout the match, and I wolfed right back at him, but it seemed like Jimmy Mataya was wolfing louder than anybody. You would have thought he was playing. Needless to say, everybody was having a good time, except for maybe Ronnie.

Jay Helfert, Can you add anything to this?

Jay, can you add anything to this? I know it's asking alot and I don't expect you have all the answers, but you show a pretty good recall :D

I know I ask a lot of questions, my wife tells me that every day.:sorry:

Was it in Phoenix?

What year/time frame?

How much were they playing for a set??

What kind of set was it? Race/Ahead?

How come the audio was so poor?

Was it your idea to film it and how did the players feel about it?

Do you remember how long it took? Was the 2 DVD's about the whole length of it or did it go on much longer?

Looked like it was in a casino or something, judging by the carpet.

They played in Phoenix in 1988 at The Golden Eight Ball. It was after Ronnie and Danny got done for the day. The players were not hooked up to "mics" for the after hours game. I think each set was a Race To Five and Keith and Harry won one or two sets overall. The bet, as I recall, was 5K a side. Ronnie had a backer of course.

The filming took place independently of the production we did for the challenge match between Ronnie and Danny. I had nothing to do with the after hours stuff. I had worked all day on the Ronnie-Danny match and did not stick around for the after hours stuff. And we had to start shooting again early the next day. I don't know how long they played. I imagine it was hours.

Thanks very much for filling us in on that info, Jay. You got a helluva a good brain in that skull:grin:

It's always nice to have some idea of what was going on at the time, when you watch them play.
