I need some fresh ideas for practing banks. What should I practice? Right now I play short rack banks by my self or put out shots along/ near the rails and bank them in with changing angles. Any drill ideas or specific shots? Diagrams would be great.

To train bank-shots is a must-have in your arsenal.
The drill i posted are just (in my opinion) standard-bank-shots that should be shot with a very high percentage. (especially the *shorties*).

CueTable Help

If you go later further, you will have to get knowledge about kicking-systems. Here you ll finde several in the web. 1 rail kicking, 2-rail kicking and a 3 rail system should be known by an advanced player (my opinion^^).

But like always.........a repeatable straight stroke is necessary. Also you have to train those shots with different speed because with higher speed the angles will change after hitting the cushion (comin shorter out of the cushion). Experience is the key for successful banking in pool :)

Practice banking center-to-center with a pivot. Banking cross side/corner.... 1/2 tip hip pivot = 1/2 diamond adjustment, 1 tip hip pivot = 1 diamond adjustment. This is at a medium speed.

Straight-backs.... 1/2 tip hip pivot = 1 diamond adjustment

I like to pivot to a solution beyond the pocket and hit it firmly.

Dave: This happens not soooo often...but i understand nothing, rofl.
I just know *Hip Hop* ^^

Or...just aim at a half ball (without the pivot). Most banks (and cuts) are a half ball aim anyway! CTE is the bomb! :D

Basically the question is how to play solitaire banks, as one might play the ghost in 9-ball. Here are two ways to do it:

1. Break the rack open, take ball-in-hand. Set a goal for how many banks without missing constitutes a "win" against the ghost. If you meet this goal ( 2 might be a win for a beginner, 4 for a strong intermediate), you win the game. If you miss before meeting the goal, the ghost wins.

-or-

2. Combine banks with straight pool. The goal is to score 5-banks out of the rack. But, you can shoot non-bank shots (maximum of 4) to keep your run going and to allow you to get position to bank. Once you miss any shot, the ghost wins.

Great ideas, thanks.

Banks

Try starting with a standard banking (in line from corner to 2nd diamond to the side pocket) with the object ball near the middle of the table. Mark where you have the cueball and the object ball. Bank it in at table speed (so it takes the natural angle). Now after making it 3 or 4 times move the object ball up table 1/2 balls width and shoot that at the same speed until you make it a few time, then move the object ball up table 1/2 balls width again. Keep doing this until you have a steep cross side bank.

You can do this with any bank and just vary it slightly but keep the same speed and english, just changing the angle slightly.
