Just posted this over on the mechanics subforum and would like to solicite advice here as well.

I just bought a rather used (circa 1975) valley table that came with some usable, but rather dirty cloth. It looks like liquid stains, beer I'm sure. Any suggestions as to how to get these stains out? I don't really care if they never fully disappear, but it would be nice to lessen their obviousness. The cloth is typical of valley, though I don't know what kind. I think that it has some type of "rubberized" backing or maybe the underside is just treated. Would a damp cloth help this out? Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks.

I do not know how you could clean it. It really is not worth it. You should simply replace it and you will be much happier.

As suggested, replacing the cloth would be your best bet. However, if you feel that the cloth is still playable, you might try something like "Resolve" carpet cleaner. It's also used on upholstery. I'd try a little patch first to test any adverse effects on the cloth. Follow the directions on the spray can. Good luck with your quest for a cleaner cloth.

I don't think that I'll bother recovering it for a while, as it really is quite playable and not really worn out at all (except where the owner tore small bits of felt in the bed cloth and under the rails - doing what I have no idea), . And when I do get around to it, I will not put Simonis 860 on it. I am going to use this table to mimic all of those tables in the many dive bars that I play in for the league. That means slow, nappy cloth and a magnetic cue ball.

I figure that with my 9' Diamond pro, I have the best of both worlds. Or at least the best of one, and the conditions of the other.

Then dont change a thing about it :lol:

i had an old bar box that sounds like it was in similar shape

i used a "bissell spot bot" compact upholstery/carpet cleaner (i figured worst thing that could happen is that it would ruin the cloth)

anyway, it came out looking and playing fine
