I have just been given a great opportunity to be a league operator I have been in different leagues off and on for 18 years but I figured this would also be great place to get a different perspective on views in other areas and leagues now I have read a lot of post on here but what I would like to know is one part you would change with your league on LO side and league itself thanks for your help,Bill

If you are APA you may already have this. They did in the old days (Busch) have a handicap review board made up of knowledgeable and respected players. Takes some of the heat off yourself when people are moved up.
 
I can't stress enough for captains meetings a few times during the season. The meetings can run as short as 10 minutes, but it lets everyone have a say.

I would want my league operator to have a clear cut set of rules in which he/she does not manipulate to aid in the persons/teams that he/she has been buddy-buddies with. IOW, stick to the written rules "ver batim", regardless of who they might affect.

No exceptions!!!

I wish we had something like this in two of the three leagues that I play in (not gonna divulge which two ;)).

i would recommend having a playoff round every 4-6 weeks. 1v2 3v4 etc...odd numbers being the home team. 2@1, 4@3
it helps keep the standings close and/or gives the lower placed teams a chance to catch up on the next higher ranking team.

These are 3 things that, if incorporated into your league, would make it great! Only thing i would change would be to have the playoff rounds at the lower placed team, to give them a litlle bit of advantage. I cannot stress enough about sticking to the rules. One of our league OPs around my area keeps her buddies teams from moving up into a league with real competition, even if they win their division the previous session. The rules in our area state that if you win a division, you move up the next session. She has kept her buddies teams from doing this, because they are giant pussies apparently. :D They used to have a board made up of myself and other players that would vote on league matters and team and player matters. We met twice and have never since. This was 3 years ago.... And they wonder why everyone gets pissed off and quits. Unfair rules and not standing behind your word will kill your league. So don't do that!

Show up to the league nights and talk with the players. Show that you actually give a spit about pool, and not just collecting cash.

That's good. He's probably a good LO.

I quit a 1 league because I never saw the LO, not one single time.
I was on a team in a different league which broke apart because the LO ran it half-azzed.....and wasn't around during league play.

I'm just saying...if you wanna be good LO, then don't run it like it's just collecting a paycheck.

when i 1st started playing league a few years ago it was bca. our lo was into poker. he went to wsop in vegas a few times. well he started running poker games in the poolhall t the same time we are playing league. he started getting players involved in both . it got frustrating when it was your turn to match up and your opponent was in a poker game and he would holler he would play last match . you would have to sit back down and wait to play the lst match guess thats why its apa here now lol.
 
I like our LO here in the Portland area.. they have a big bbq campout in the summer ($5 for the weekend.. swimming, fishing, all food included, drinks/beer, games and prizes) and a few other events here and there - we also have a running competition with another LO.

Remember - people will always be *****ing about something. Just keep your head straight and be fair.

Our LO also pushes to get people to enter into the singles competition.. I think this is a great way to get people to stick around. Get a lot of people into the singles regional so more people can go.. that means more people getting that experience and sharing it with others on their return.

And lastly.. try not to spend as much on things like patches and give a little more back in payouts. A dry payout system can turn off a lot of people that would normally stick around for a minimal amount.
