Room Dimensions Needed for Comfortable 3C Play

I am in the process of selecting a townhouse to purchase, and I would like to add a 5x10 3 cushion table in the future. Do you any of you know the room dimensions I would need to play comfortably without hitting the walls at all?

One of the places im looking at has a damn lolly column in the middle of the heated basement

I've always thought a minimum of 20'X20' room would be a perfect size. You have room for a 5'X10' table and some chairs and tables along the side for players and guests. You may be able to get by with a wee bit smaller, but just on the side rail dimension. A 56" carom cue played off a rail swings back 4+ feet. A table centered in the room has at worst 5' clearance from the top and bottom rails. All my home pool tables had compromises... I never quite had the big bonus room... and a carom table was just a dream. Still dreaming...

Thanks for the speedy reply. At the moment im not worried about chairs or tables at all, just how much space is needed for the table, player, and cue.

Don't consider anything smaller than 15x20 feet for a room size. If you compromise on 13 or 14 feet wide you'll end up being disappointed. You'll have one hell of a time finding a place with a room big enough. Most builders size the rooms for ease of carpet installation. Best of luck.

And if you want to be really comfortable, with room for chairs on the side of the table, look for something even larger than 15x20. If you allow 6 feet back from the nose of each cushion, you get 16'8"x21'4".

On the other hand, I know someone who has installed a table up against the corner in his smallish dining room. He can't play matches on it, but he can practice nearly any shot.
