Bank Pool - Which of these 3 shots are legal?

#1 It has always been a good shot, albeit lucky. I have been awarded, and also have paid off this shot, even in the worst tush-hog joints.

#2 Of course not. I couldnt get away with this shot if I had Carlo Gambino as my backer.

#3 Good shot. It has always been a good shot. One of the main keys to determining if a shot is legit is whether or not you can count it when you are playing away from home in a tough joint.

#4 Why would Billy Stroud know more about this bank pool question than me? What class did I fail to attend in my 55 years in the pool room?

Freddy,

I have never claimed to know more about bank pool than you.
After all, You are The Beard. The Beard knows!

I take it you're a bar pool player...

If you are talking about shot 1, he has already called it - the question is
meerly - can a player make a bank 'using' the point of the pocket.
Shot 1 is the same as a ball sliding down the long rail - I have seen, and
made many a bank of a ball close to the long rail that hit the rail
2 diamonds up from the corner pocket - on a Diamond table.

I would also be interested to hear from Freddy - but IMHO Bill Stroud
would know as much about something like this as anybody.

Unlike Jay, it would seem, we always played you couldn't bank balls
'off the points' of pockets.

Dale

No Dale I dont play on bar equipment mostly 9 footers. I have called balls off of pocket points before and used them on One Pocket shots but the proposed bank is in the corresponding opposite pocket.

The pocket point slide shot in my own opinion could be to either pocket depending on how you hit or if you hit it with degrees of badness. What happens if he says one rail in the corner with the five and then it either slides in the nearest corner or rebounds and plays in the opposite corner?

Are both shots legal?

They are because you snoozed and did not make the man specify which pocket. I was always taught if you snooze you lose. So I he were banking towards a pocket underneath him and his shot went in the other pocket Im sorry, aint going for it except if we are playing for fun and even then well I think you missed and its my turn. That might make for some friendly chatter though.

Did I mention he DID call it?

We are talking about Bank pool - you call not only rails, but also which
pocket - a one railer that goes into the wrong pocket is not counted.

It seems to me, and I could have misinterpeted, that you are talking
about banking a ball in some game(s) other than Bank pool.
The OP specifically stated Bank pool.

What game do you call shots off pocket points?

A common way to call shots in bank pool that ive seen and practiced is for example:

One bump in the corner with the --the specify the ball----thats pretty general and most people know which corner it is but if it goes off the point goes one bump and goes in the other corner well? Thats my point is that legal too?

It was one bump now wasnt it? I guess you just eat that one then because technically you allowed him to call it that way. He satisfied that he called the pocket as well but wasnt perfectly specific.

What Im saying is if he was brash enough to say he called it like that with that type of general accepted call then Ill be retiring at the end of the game if we are betting. I dont mind getting beat, I just mind getting cheated.

If he said one bump in pocket back under me then its legal I guess technically and he did call that pocket.

If he called it like that, played it like that there is no doubt.

You dont have to call shots like that in one pocket but you do in bank pool but if you decide to call it out then its perfectly ok but not required there doesnt have to be a rule in order for you to be able to call a shot out of courtesy. Maybe I missed your point but perhaps you missed mine, peace.

Perhaps it's about different cultures - I've never seen anyone even try to get away with taking a bank that went in the wrong pocket. Of course, the rule effectively was you "called" anything that wasn't obvious. So that took care of anything that wasn't straight forward.

Also, we didn't "bank" balls off the points - so that wasn't an issue either.

Still waiting to hear anybody ever call a shot in One Pocket.
