Agreed.

I remember the first time I laid eyes on Landon, at Derby City about four years ago at the old hotel. When I saw him coming in toting a cue on his shoulder, I thought, "Well, at least there's someone here I can beat."

A few hours later, I saw him matched up with some poor schlepp who didn't get more than three shots in an hour.

Since that day, I've learned about him and his dad, and have nothing but admiration for them both. What's so admirable about Landon, though, is what a fine student and citizen he is off the table.

Our sport will be proud of this kid in the long run -- trust me.

Congrats indeed. A fine player who deserved the win (I won't condescend by calling him young, he's a great player regardless of his age).

I am a bit confused though. I'm a pool player in the second largest city in the state (KY is a God forsaken land) and I was not even aware that we had a state championship. Oh well...

Wonder how Landon wins what with using CTE/Pro One? He and Stevie Moore must be just lucky, huh?

I found out last year that we had a state bar table championship held in Campbellsville. I really wanted to attend but it was held on Easter weekend and being the family man I am I stayed home. So, I hope they haven't changed weekends and told virtually no one about it. But anything is possible I guess...oh well!! One would think nearly everyone pool room in the state would know of such a tournament, wouldn't ya??

Tap, Tap, Tap!! Kind words 9BallPaul!! Congratulations Landon!! You do your Dad proud!! Thanks for the heads-up Mikjary!!

In reply to Ky Boy, David at Rack & cue (270-465-5918) is great about sending out flyers to all of his tournaments. Call and ask to be added to the mailing list. As for the Ky open, I wasn't able to attend this year but I am not in the least surprised to hear Landon won it. Amazing as it sounds at his age (16?) I have to believe the only Ky player favored over him at 9ball or 10 ball is Brumback and even John would not run over him.
I've personally seen him blank Johnathan Hennessee 7-0 and in another tournament put Dee Atkins on the loser side and then beat him again in the finals.

Good grief. We can't just wish a fine player a hearty congratulations on his win, can we? We just *have* to find a way to shoehorn aiming system drivel in there?

Great job, Landon! Miss seeing you and your father at GSBT events! Hope ya'll can get to one soon!

Marge,

This reminds me of a GSBT event at Diamond Billiards in Chattanooga a few years ago (before they were amateur events), where I got to play Landon in one of the later rounds. It was Sunday, so the locals had gotten to see what an awesome talent he was at such a young age.

So there are two older ladies sitting at a table close to our match. I got a little lucky, and got up, I think, 7-4 in a race to 9. The ladies were making comments just loud enough for me to hear that they couldn't believe that I'd take advantage and "beat up" on such a nice young man...

I broke in the 12th game and didn't make a ball. Landon ran the set out on me...

I first saw Landon when he was about 7 years old. He did an exhibition at the Viking national championships in Lexington, KY. We had taken a break from matches, and some of the best players in the country sat there amazed watching this "child" show his stuff. I knew back then, that he was something special.

Congrats, and continued success to you, Landon.

Steve

Yeah, it wasn't highly attended this year from what I heard. My buddy Russ placed second to Landon and was very complimentary of the way Landon played. Congrats Landon......

BTW- have you been to Johnny Brumley's place in Lex? I think it is called Diamond Billiards, 3 9'ers and 7 bb's. Don' know how long he has been open, just heard about it.

Congrats on a very good win Landon! There is a very nice write up on Landon in the new edition of Inside Pool under junior player profile. Landon has his head on straight and well grounded (planning on attending college). I had the pleasure of meeting Landon while taking lessons with his dad Stan last fall. Also, had the chance to watch him play at the Brickyard Classic the weekend before the lessons. I was very impressed with his play and demeanor. Very humble and professional at such a young age.

Hey Gary it was last Saturday, the 12th.

Not yet been to Johnny's Diamond Billiard Club. If they have a tourney this Saturday, then I will play there then. I look forward to it, as I have heard good things about it, and who can argue with Diamond as the equipment?

I've been there just about every night. It is a really nice place and Johnny is a great guy. There is finally a hospitable pool room with some real players. There has been pretty good action in there daily.

It's been open about two weeks now. Tournaments have been running about 20-30 people. Not bad for being open 10 days. Russ was in there last weekend.
