Aloha all,

The place I play at on Oahu has what is listed in the title, in not so great condition. It is under new ownership and the proprietor was willing to put money into 4 of them for the regulars. I suggested starting with 2 for obvious reasons and he seems to feel that it makes sense as well.

Since, (based on what I've heard from a previous mechanic about the tables) they are completely mixed up, rails, slates, etc., is it possible for a mechanic to take one as is and get it to play top level? Or should all tables be dissasembled, matched back up and take it from there?

I would like to end by thanking you all very much for your continued dedication to what I believe sets the standard for our passion.

Again Mahalo to all for your time,
Carl

Mixed up GC's

In my opinion it isn't necessary to rematch all of the parts to the original tables. Although it would be nice to be working with the proper slates on each table. Usually the rail parts and castings are switched around but not the slates.

What you want to try to have happen, what myself and other top mechanics around the country are doing, is have all of the rails identically match each other throughout any given pool room. GC rails are not "clones" of each other from the factory like some people think. Slight variances in pocket angles, rail length etc.

How much of a redo are you talking about? new Simonis, new rubber, re-level, powdercoated castings and feet, new pockets etc. This as well as "calibrating the rail sets" to be identical to each other is what we usually do to bring a GOLD CROWN back to life.

My suggestion would be to have someone local relevel the slates and recover the bed using the Simonis stretch index, while you send the rails to myself or Zach in Phoenix (anyone capable of calibrating the rails, west coast saves on shipping) to be redone correctly and then sent back to you for the final install.

Or we could come to Oahu?!

Mahalo Gordon,

I'm just a player there and have mentioned having the rails sent out for proper treatment. Still feeling the propr. out to see how far he is willing to go.

Mahalo again for your time and toughts,
Carl

Guy's, I'm just a patron. I would love to see the proprietor get the most professional help as possible because the choices for mechanics on island, based on commercial tables alone, seems lacking to say the least. I will keep ringing his ear with suggestions but after prodding for details I am still not clear as to his over all intentions.

If he can be talked into an outsider comming on island let me know if you are interested and I will gladly pass it on. Some info that might help, i.e.(expenses he would incure/expenses you/mechanic would incure.)

Again I'm just a player wanting the best table conditions possible. And can only help in that regard with you fine pep's.

Mahalo to everyone for all you contribute,
Carl
