Cte

Listen (insert proper noun here).......... I said it's my OPINION. That's not a "claim".

For someone who can't stand CTE you sure do seem to get a kick out of jumping into all these threads.

My OPINION is based on watching the pros and paying close attention to their body motions as they get into the shot. The WAY that a lot of pros do is is SIMILAR to the way a CTE user gets into to the shot. Therefore it is my OPINION that MAYBE some pros end up aiming in a similar fashion as CTE as a natural evolution.

I don't know that of course and can't know it without some serious research. However I am certain that I have spent more time studying the pro form with this subject in mind than you have.

So sincerely, *&^% off.

Not that you care but you could try to be ON TOPIC. However since you can't use CTE you couldn't possibly be on topic and post in this thread could you? So instead you choose to stalk me further.

For someone who claims to hate all the CTE threads you sure do your part to keep them going. Clue for you: Every post you make being a knocker will generate another post from a supporter and the threads won't die.

Hey, whatever justifications you want to use for why your religion is better, and that includes telling yourself that other people believe in your god, they just don't know it! HA! That's hilarious.

Why do I jump on these? Same reason you feel it necessary to praise it to no ends. Just because, it seems. The folks that run around with tinfoil hats get a lot of attention, no? If it weren't promoted like a circus act, it wouldn't be treated as one.

Stalk you further.. keep dreaming.. go **** yourself.

And I'm going to continue to crap all over the CTE posts as long as their put up on a pedestal and pushed by people acting like heroin dealers behind on their payments.

Well you are more than welcome to try me some and see how you do. Just tell me where I can find you. Your "friend" JR Hendy has the same challenge to Joey and Neil and probably to me too if I engaged him so I will give you the same offer.

I will extend the same offer to you if we run into each other. A friendly match for $500 or $1,000 of one pocket. You win I will take a CTE lesson and be serious about it. I win and I will play a set of 9 ball if you want to give you a shot at getting even. John

just curious why wouldnt you look at the cte info and at least see if it could benefit you?

Im just curious how well you play? do you think you can no longer improve?
Im just curious why certain people are so against information?

do you use a predator shaft? layered tip? I really dont see cte as any different than an advance in technology like laminated shafts or layered tips, but then again I am just looking to play better pool no matter what the witch craft

Because it's the people who could make fire without understanding it on the atomic level who made it possible for universities to exist. Phenomena exists and it's your job to explain it and figure it out.
John, trust me, we're not at the frontiers of science here. The physicists and mathematicians are now off cavorting on Kaluza-Klien and Calabi-Yau manifolds, for instance. They've long since left our piddly 3-D concerns behind.

What claims are false?
There's a guy that sometimes posts on this forum; I think he goes by the name of Pat Jackson, or Patrick Johns, or something like that. Maybe he needs to express himself more forcefully, but in his diminutive manner, I believe he's suggested that CTE hasn't been clearly defined, and even if it was - and didn't include ghostball-like adjustments - it doesn't, in general, and contrary to the claims of its advocates, provide an accurate aim-line. I don't know, it's something to think about and discuss. (I can't understand why this has never been addressed at length?)

I have tried CTE for just about every type of shot on the table and have not found one yet where I can't use it. Maybe you can diagram some shots where the object ball is to be shot directly into a pocket which you think CTE cannot be used and I will shoot them using CTE on video.
I, amongst others, would be happy to, if one of you would come up with a set of steps that define, unambiguously, where the
cue will be pointing after following those steps, either in actuality, or as you see it from the shooter's perspective (in the eye of the beholder). Guides to positioning your head and body are just not enough. Generally speaking, the difference between potting a ball and missing rather badly, is only a few tenths of a degree in cue direction, and sometimes less than even a tenth of a degree. Overall body, head and eye location are insufficient to restrict the direction of the cue on that scale (i.e., a slight tweak of the grip hand or bridge is enough to span that range). That's why watching someone sink shots, however adept they are at it, can't be taken as confirmation of the system. It's just too crude a metric.

I, and I think many others, would welcome any further clarification.

Jim

Neil, why do people, who, by their own admission, couldn't tell you the difference between a secant and a centroid, believe their assertions are correct against the admonitions of those who do know geometry, a few of which teach university level courses in engineering/physics? Why do the proponents continue to see themselves as budding Galileos persecuted by The Inquisition, when in fact they're doing a much better imitation of Simplicio? Why do they not take the hint and stop with the false claims?

Eternal mysteries.

Jim

I absolutely do not know the difference between a secant and a centroid and was poor at geometry. I have been a pretty good pool player for a long time in spite of this handicap LOL.

This is the kind of post that I think turns people off CTE or aiming threads unless they are an engineering/physics major.

Try and keep it simple for us less gifted folks.

Jim,
Can't you say this about any system? S.A.M, Same Aim, Quarters, Ghost ball, Double the Distance, Contact Point to Contact Point, Overlap, Ferrule Aiming, etc etc!!

I'm a strong B player, I think, as far as the bigger picture goes, possibly a local A as I don't think I'd get much, if any weight locally, in most games. I've been playing for about 6 years and am primarily a barbox player. I have been improving since I started playing.

I'm not against information, quite the contrary. What I am against, though, is people pushing their wares without end. There are forum sections for that, but apparently that is not good enough for CTE. I'm not a naysayer, as some would like you to believe. It is not something I, myself, am interested in at the moment. Nor am I interested in having sales pitches made to me over and over.

I use a predator shaft(well, its been out of commission for a couple of weeks) with a layered tip(I find I get away without chalking as much). If anyone created threads all of the time about how predator shafts were so awesome, I'd tell them to stfu, too. In the meantime, I'm playing with my 14oz Schmelke with a hard tip. Oh, and I prefer my tip to be flat, too.

I don't know if I would have a chance playing you. If I was aware of your speed and even thought I had a little the worst of it, I would play. I have seen you barking with some pretty good players in the past on the action forum.

I have not been a follower of CTE posts until fairly recently. Some of the information out there - air pivots, charts and drawings of how to line up to hit the object ball and the multitude of other information in these posts, just seem to complicate things for me.

I have not seen or heard anything yet that I think would help my game. When I do, I will try it.

First of all I've never had an aiming system, or used the ghost ball system. I've always used feel on all my shots, I shoot fast and just get down and shoot. I really don't look at a spot or line up anything. Most people tell me that I am using Rote. I really don't know what I do. I am not a top player just above average. I gamble at one pocket, can't play anything else. Going on 67. When people ask me what I look at when I'm aiming, I tell them I don't know, because I don't. I bought the DVD for CTE and I can say my game has imporved alot since using it. I have not gone to the pro 1 yet because I'm still working on the first part and trying to get that done. It's working for me because I now have a reference point and something to aim at with CTE. It also gives me confidence when shooting.
Will it ever make me a Champion? Hell no, but it is giving me new look on shooting pool and making it fun again. John Hendy I'm coming to Vegas 5/13/11 to 5/17/11. Hope we can play some one hole. Casey

I will be there from the 11th to the 15th. Hope we can find time to play some. John

I believe the guy you were thinking of is Silky Johnson.

Naysayers = fail

The 'Mouth from the South'. I was wondering when you might show up. Love the blue font, by-the-way.
You know what is so glaringly obvious about your and JB's enthusiasim over this CTE nonsense? It's the fact that you are both businessmen in an industry that to most of us is only a hobby. It wouldn't take an even half bright detective to figure out that the both of you have vested interests in the subject.
Regardless. Why don't you follow your friend over there, to that happy place where you can practice your pseudo-science in peace, and perhaps profit a little along the way.

I thought that you might be a subsitute for Smorgassbored with your attempts at humor but it is obvious you won't ever be able to carry his torch.

Why would you make up lies about me? You know nothing about how I make my living. You are constantly making up things about people just so that it suits your agenda.

You make them up out of the air, in desperation to prove some stupid point, God knows what that is. It just makes you look sad and a little stupid at times.

I don't know how you got to be the way you are but you really should seek some professional help. You and the rest of the Naysayers have developed some type of complex over CTE/Pro One.

All of the Naysayers should just get over it.
The naysayers have FAILED.

But seriously, I know that you have had some recent health issues and I genuinely don't wish you any more health problems and hope that you get better. Do you really think this type of posting is helping your health? I don't want to see you have a relapse or have any other additional health issues from this and hope that you will see fit to avoid all CTE/Pro One threads entirely. (And I mean this).

Give aiming systems their own Forum!!!

WTF? Let's get funny again. Life is too serious to be serious about it. If people want to buy it let them buy it.

If they think that after a year of hard practicing using CTE the improvement in their game was caused by CTE and not the hard practice, let them. If it gets them to practice it's a good thing.

It's a common logical fallacy. 'Post hoc ergo propter hoc.'

Why do you think that phony weight loss pills always come with a diet and exercise video?

I wear a magnet on my wrist hoping it will improve my balance. Do I think it will improve my balance? No. But it makes me think about it.:withstupid:

"Can't we all just get along?"

TO be honest I have never ventured into a cte thread just because people start talking about math and proofs so forth,to me that belongs in a book being taught by a professor.

What I was looking for is if people have tried cte and basically what their results were....Not I'm never gonna try it cuz I dont know what it is and it cant help me, if that is attitude that one has then they will never reach their potential even if they play 24/7.

I dont really wanna play you I was just making a point

I never claimed to be the heir apparent to the Smorg. Those were your words. His humor and mine are completely different and you couldn't even light his torch.
As a matter-of-fact I did seek professional help just the other day. I told the Psychiatrist JoeyA had suggested I see him, and he said. "Isn't he the guy who uses the big blue font?"
I said. "Yeah. That's the guy."
He said. "Have him give me a call."
I appreciate your concern for my health but I really think these CTE hoo-rahs are actually doing wonders for it. Besides. This is our forum. Not yours, and certainly not JB's and his faithful sidekick CCC.

That's cute. :)

So why would you deliberately LIE about me?

do you use a predator shaft? layered tip? I really dont see cte as any different than an advance in technology like laminated shafts or layered tips

Okay, now we're getting somewhere. The above quote is a powerful statement for both the "naysayers" and the "yeasayers".

Laminated shafts, layered tips, etc. ARE advanced technology. CTE is too, imo. But....not everyone uses, nor feels the NEED to use various pieces of this "advance technology". Some use LD shafts, others use standard maple blanks. Some prefer layered tips, others prefer a single-layer tip. Some wish to use CTE, others some other aiming method. The difference is, the layered tip and laminated shaft people are NOT trying to make you believe that this is the greatest thing since sliced bread. CTE is a good thing for many people, but not ALL people are going to need or prefer to use it, just like layered tips and LD shafts. I myself prefer LD (Predator) shafts, single-layered (Triangle) tips, and I couldn't tell you how in the hell I'm aiming at a ball if you were holding a knife to my mother's throat. Let's face it, people are gonna pick-n-choose what technological advances works best for THEM. Let's all quit trying to say that this or that is what EVERYBODY needs. Simply ain't true. And the naysayers just plain ought to give up on disproving the validity of CTE. Can't be disproven. If it's helped ONE single person, then there must be something to it (and I'm pretty sure it has helped more than one person).

Maniac (sittin' high atop the fence on this issue!!!)

I'm realy not interested in how well James plays, but for the sake of argument, Brandon, how would you rate James's play?
Around my parts we tend to rate players by 'speed'. A new guy might be a one or two speed, where as a good shortstop might be a nine or a ten. It kind of depends on who's telling the story.
Now if you were of the opinion that our friend James was at the upper level, say eight, nine, or even ten, then you've only helped with my contention.
Players who have gotten this far do not need an aiming system. It will not take them over the top. All they need at these levels is courage and conviction, or as my good friend jr so eloquently said. "Heart." :)

So your saying if your an 8,9 or 10 you should stop learning things that could help your pool game?
