Anyone ever hear of the website www.customcuelathes.com. I was searching for a cue repair lathe and found this site. They have a lathe I'm interested in buying. I called many times but no answer. I send email and later a person named bassel called me back. The whole thing is that I am little worried about sending my money. The person who called me did not sound very professional at all. I was thinking it was a big company or something. Just wondering if anyone bought from them and can share some feedback on this website, www.customcuelathes.com. Thanks.

Yes, that's Bassel's website. He builds great products, and provides awesome support. I have 2 of his lathes. His screen name on here is customcuelathe. He has a fulltime day job, so you'll have to reach him in the evening or weekends on the phone, or you can email him. 248-884-4469 or customcuelathes@yahoo.com

I'm actually going to possibly buy one of his cue building lathes. So far it seems like the best bang for the buck. I was waiting for his new updates to be in place before I did, and get a finalized price.

lathe

Do yourself a favor and thoroughly check out the Hightower cue smith deluxe before you jump in and buy. The Hightower is a little more money but I think it is worth it.

Are you saying this because you've used both, or is it just your opinion? From the pictures Bassell's seems more rigid. To a certain extent, I don't care about the price, because they are all pretty close. However, I do want to find out whats the best lathe is at that price range. I thought I had heard Chris say that his new lathe will have a lead screw design, but I can't find any information about it on his website. Sorry to high jack your thread....LOL:thumbup:

I am surprised to hear about you calling, though I did have some issues with my cell phone yesterday. like rich said, I do have a fulltime job, but I try to answer my cell phone as much as I can during the day. weekdays after 5pm EST and anytime on the weekends, I am usually up till 1:00am almost every day.

JT did say "cue repair lathe" correct? Just for my own knowledge, What makes Chris's lathe "worth it" over Bassel's? Comparing apples to apples here, I believe both of their "Repair" lathes are both good choices. Price is comparable between both, both are different in some ways and the same in other because they are based off a Taig. They both do what they are intended to do and both do it well. I went with Bassels lathe because of the price difference and I don't regret it a bit. I know that anytime I've called Bassel I receive the information I need at that moment. If I need a tool, he sends it. Anytime I've needed something special and out of the ordinary for me, he's built it. I personally can not ask for anything more from a person or a product.

The information on the lead screw powerfeed is on the Deluxe Cue Smith page. The lead screw and the old direct drive powerfeeds both have their advantages, but that would be for another day and another thread.

Nice setup. At the first glance looks like the Porper repair lathe. Very heavy for sure but nice.

Thanks for the positive comments. I have been working on prefecting the Cue Building Lathe Model for a while now, although it works great, it was still not as good as a metal lathe. But right now I believe all the trial and error has paid off. I personally believe i have prefected My lead screw design, I only compare mine to metal lathes not to anyone elses lathe.
I should have new You-Tube Videos demonstrating how it works, plus couple of other new features that were added to improve the overall design. I dont want to say too much now, but as they say a picture is worth a 1000 works and a video is worth a lot more.

PS:Some might wonder, what about all the customers who, already bought the Cue Building lathe last year, well they all will be getting free upgrades, besides the design chance is so simple and robust, it would take only 3 minutes to update the original design.
To all My Cue Building Lathe customers, you will be recieving a small care package within the next week or so
Best Regards
