Question about refinishing

A friend of mine has a cue from a name cue maker. The finish is clouding and lifting. He called the cuemaker and sent him email but never received an answer or suggestions. The cue is a nice player and has some great burl. Anyway, he wants to refinish the cue but does not want to lose the cuemakers signature and date. Can that be done?

Contact Ratcues(Ryan at Muellers) on here and talk to him. He does 110% great work. Great turn around and price.

If the finish is clouding and lifting any where near the signature I would say no.

The finish is lifting at the joint and clouding near the top of one of the points. The finish seems fine over the cuemakers signature which is a few inches away from the problem areas. So it can be refinished in just the problem areas?

No it can't be refinished in the problem areas. It sounds like for some reason the surface preparation was not done correctly or there was some kind on contamination on the surface in those areas. Either way, the entire finish should be removed and replaced, in most cases the signature can be saved without problem, but sometime things happen.

If I were you I would continue to try and contact the cue maker. If the cue hasn't been abused (Banged Up) he may correct it for free, if it were a cue that I made I certainly would.

Thanks Craig. Shame it is a nice cue. I'm not sure if my buddy is going to take a chance on losing the makers signature, but the cue certainly loses value without the refinish.
