Pool rooms and pimlico!

If by 'you', you mean an individual, then perhaps...

If you mean anyone/ everyone, then you are dead wrong! The place would not exist if it wasn't taking more than paying and it takes more losers than winners to stay afloat.

Oh definitely an individual. Anyone can win if they work hard an study. But like Johnnyt says, the track doesn't care who wins or who loses. You are not betting against the track. You are betting against the other horse players. The track takes a set amount from every bet. The more that is bet, the more they make.

I was at pimlico race course yesterday,it seem like a ghost town for a saturday at the race track, saturday is always the biggest day for horse racing, the purses are bigger and so better quality horses are racing, which usually brings bigger crowds, thats not true anymore for maryland horse racing,it is a dying game here in baltimore, just like my home pool room in dundalk that is going to close any day now, being at the track yesterday reminded me as being in the pool room, no action like it used to be,at 1 time in our pool room more then half of the regulars went to the race track atlease a couple times a week,i guess times are a changeing here in baltimore, when i couldnt get no action in the pool room i would run to the track, that seems like that mite not be an option much longer, here in maryland!
I've always felt that one of the main cause of the downfall of Pool Halls has been readily available casinos and online gambling. My reasoning is that many pool players were gamblers first and foremost and pool was just the most convenient medium for feeding their "habit". Now they've got a more convenient method which also creates a great illusion that they are in control.
Horse racing has been dying right along with pool and, thought it never occurred to me before, it might be for the very same reason. Just can't compete with casinos or sitting in front of your computer making bets.
Just a thought.

Richie, how can you bet them horse's,you've known me 30 years,my family were in the racing buiss. all their life,i rode for Ramond Archer & worked at windfield farms,3 uncles were jockeys, 1 ruled off at pimlico(and all of maryland tracks) for using a buzzer. They used to allow me in the jockey room & thats were i used to see my uncles fixing races & paying 15% to the runner at the window, thats why i dont go to the track with you, that & the fact that my uncle Tommy is head of securty at Pimlico & knows my track record & the whole family's,you think pool is shady....ha!! BY the way i hope keith broke the bank at the otb room.

Rick iam waiting for them to fix it my way so i can cash in,iam still waiting btw,you ask me why i still go to the track, well thats easy,we all need to be smacked around a little bit sometimes, and they do a good job at that!ps:if you stay there to long them smacks will turn to punches, and then you gotta deal with you know who,and try to explain to her why you dont have enough money to buy the kids a pizza, when she knew you just had 5 hundred last nite!

I think you are dead on correct. Most of the pool players migrated to poker.
