dry clean cloth?

I purchased an gold crown 1 and it came with cloth that is a little dirty and has some wax on it probably from candles but no holes and looks fairly good. I did purchase new cloth but was going to install the cloth that came with the table for the first year until I can get the grand kids used to playing and respecting the table.
this brings up a question the wife actually posed. Can you dry clean the older cloth? how would I remove the wax if I did not dry clean? I guess the previous owner used it for a buffet table.

So the wax is on the playing surface side, and not the bottom? Are you sure it's not wax from the seam?

No, it is defiantly on the top and not near a seam. It also had some wax on the rails so it led me to believe at one time they used it as a table for a romantic dinner, I know it sounds strange but I guess pool isn't the only thing done on a pool table.....yea we have all seen the videos.

Anyway the cloth is good quality and still has a year or two left in it so why not dry clean?

Hell, worst case, if it doesn't work, you still need new cloth, so why not give it a try. Dinner on a pool table = romantic? I love it.
 
Dry clean cloth

I used to give my used table cloths to another room owner who would have them dry cleaned and then put them on his tables. He told me they came out pretty nice. Of course, he's out of business now. I'm not sure if it would clean wax, it seems like it wouldn't. You could always call a dry cleaner and ask about wax ahead of time.
 
to get wax out of carpet you use a brown paper bag, and an iron.... put the bag(one layer) over the wax spot and run the iron over it.

works great and i would be surprised if it didn't work better on pool table cloth.


if interested in trying it i would suggest melting a couple drops of wax onto the cloth near the edges where they will never come into play and give it a test run.

You have to be very careful with that. Although it will work, especially with older carpet, a lot of newer carpets...and pool table cloth...have a lot of nylon in them, which can melt. So guys, if you're going to try this method to get wax out of carpet, DEFINITELY try it on an area that won't be noticeable if you melt it. ;)

great response thank you all. I went with a warm iron between paper towels and it got most of it. it had a few other stains and issues that I did not think would clean out. I'll play on it as is and next winter change it. The grand kids are having a blast and as they learn a little on this older cloth they can do no harm.
