Is it worth it to by pool ball cleaning products? Can I just use something I might have around the house like Windex?

If I must buy a product what do you guys like?

i think there was a post on this subject a couple of weeks ago but maybe another forum. anyway, in the past i used turtle car wax with carnuba but after reading a post about using some waxws and it leaving a "film" on the ball and thereby affecting the shot/english, i changed to another person's post about their using windex......simple, quick, cheaper and no film. since i have changed, i have not noticed any difference in the cleanliness or shine. stick with the windex!
have a great holiday hopefully shooting!

I use Aramith Billiard Ball Cleaner. You can't go wrong with it.

A good number of ppl here also swear by Brillianize. I have never used it.

I would stay away from Windex or any other ammonia-based cleaners.

i use turtle wax "car wash and wax" with a polisher made out of two 10 gallon buckets and a $30 ryobi buffer.

I like Aramith Ball Cleaner. It gets all the chalk marks off the cueball, and makes it look brand new again.

ball cleaning thread

I want to apologize for this post I did find an older post that talks about this issue in great detail. I would remove it but can't figure out how to do it....

I clean/polish by hand. After I play as the balls are put in the tray I hit each of them with a spritz of Brillianize or Plexus (both plastic cleaners), wipe them off with a microfiber towel, and put them in the storage tray under the footrail. I like a clean set every time I begin play and these products are the easiest since they both simply spray on. A whole set takes only 2-3 minutes to clean and put away.

Every once in a while I will use the Aramith ball cleaner/polish since this stuff is thicker (like shampoo) and has a little "grit" to it so it helps get out fine line scratches. But it is not so convenient or fast to get through a set when doing it by hand because it doesn't spray on like the other two products I use every time I play. Since it's pastier you have to sort of rub it over each ball with your finger and then wipe off. So I do this only occasionally while watching TV.

The Brillianize and Plexus work so well I hardly use the Aramith stuff anymore but it does provide a little more "restorative" power so I go to it occasionally.

I've tried almost all of the mentioned cleaners and the best is the one that is designed to clean phenolic balls by the ball manufacturer - Aramith Ball Cleaner. Does a fantastic job and leaves no residue.

went with Aramith

I went with the Aramith product. Maybe they will send me a new set of balls for this plug!
