Black (new) Magic Rack?

Maybe next time they can check out SlugDoctor. Works on the same principle, and no need to worry about tilting the rack between games or how to carry it and hope it stays flat (the dots are disposable).

As for carrying all those magic racks, why not use a 3 ring binder, or stick them in the pages between a hard cover book?

Johnny;

At one point I saw Ken Schuman grab a box of magic racks trying to get one that would lay flat. I saw him showing Mike Deschaine in his earlier match with JJ how you have to flip them over to see which way lays better (unless there's a top & bottom?). I would have thought the weight of the balls would take care of that.

Ray (Bigtruck) mentioned that there needs to be a better way to handle/transport the magic racks as all of the handling was taking a toll on them. He added that maybe something with thumbscrews could be used for storing them - I think he meant for maintaining flatness.

Are they that flimsy? I thought I heard some people say you could roll them up, put em in your pocket, then use them with no problems. Maybe that's not right.

And while some of the attention may have been due to crookedness, I definitely saw (and even heard) a number of times where the players were pointing out certain balls that were not touching. So does this mean that even though you are supposed to get a perfect rack every time that you still have to fool with balls to get them tight? And does this differ from the first generation clear magic racks?

I ordered a set just the other day and am anxious to see how they do.

Best,

One of my matches at ultimate 10ball I had to ask the ref to re rack about 70% of the time due to a few balls not being froze.

I believe that I could spend a lot less timing racking balls in a tournament on tables in "tournament condition" (read: new cloth) with a Delta-13 than I could with a Magic Rack, and STILL get a perfect rack. Of course there would be SOME racks that would take a bit longer to get "right", but total racking time for the ENTIRE tournament would be shorter, imo.
And.......there would NEVER be an issue with having to remove the rack afterwards or any balls rerouted/halted. I saw the 10-ball get halted by the Magic Rack on several occasions when I was watching the streaming this weekend.

I roll mine up around the butt of my pool cue and keep it in my case. It unrolls flat and works perfectly.

If two balls aren't touching you simply push them together with your finger which takes about 1 second.

If anyone thinks they can rack better and/or faster on any table, new cloth or not, they have never used a Magic Rack....

That guy must not have known what he was doing, I would have to put in effort to not get all the balls to be frozen.

It sounds like this Black Magic Rack is made different. I have heard of no issues with the 1st generation clear ones. Johnnyt

I can't speak for the 1st generation clear one, but I have 4 of the new black ones and they all work flawlessly.

I don't think I've heard anything negative from people that actually own one.

I have both the 9/10 and 8 ball black magic racks and they both work great every time. Mine did have a blue protective film on it, and I needed to scrape it a little bit so I could peel it off.

I had the original one and when I got it , there was a little piece of film that was to be removed. And the same directions are on the new black ones also. But I can not find a edge to remove film. I asked the guy I bought it off of here on AZ but he says he has yet to find it either. Has anyone else found and removed the film piece on the new black magic racks ?....>> ED

Yes, there is a film. If you look at the Magic Rack, it's the shinier side with the bluish tint. Keep picking at a corner with your fingernail until you get it.

There are divots in the rack where the balls lay. You need to push the outer balls with slight pressure inward, to get the balls to touch. It takes me 15 seconds at the most to rack.

Those refs seemed like it was their first time using them...it really shouldn't take near that long to rack. Watch SVB do it, or someone who actually has one and uses it.

Right. I'm using the New Black One in this video and it takes me 10 to 15 seconds to get a perfect rack every time.

On that same table with a regular rack I would be there all day trying to get all the balls to touch.

problem could be mis-matched balls

The only problem I have ever had with MR is when the BALLS are not all the same size which is a problem no matter what rack you are using.

There is definitely a piece of film on the new racks. It is hard to see and not that easy to take off but it is there. I took the film off of mine and I purchased the new black ones.

I notice with that rack alot of times the 10 ball never moves after the break. Seems like this is a problem with that rack

Removing the film

OK GUYS, sorry for not making this clear!

The film is located on the rack with the logos facing up.

To remove the film take a piece of sellotape, stick it on the rack and pull it off quickly. This will lift off the film. Sometimes you might have to do this a couple of times.

I hope this clears up the confusion.

In regards to material, the material is still the same just black in color.

SOmetimes when balls dont always stick you might find that those balls might be worn more than the others

hope this helps

If the rack is used properly the ten ball should only move if it is kicked by another ball coming back to the rack area.
