New case against smoking

I see this is going to be one of those threads that you just kick back with the pop corn and watch the show.
I'll be back to watch after my smoke break. :groucho:

I had received a Huebler U.S, Open cue - a really nice cue - in a beautiful Huebler leather case that had been in too many cigar rooms. The case was like-new but reeked of cigar smoke. I kept the cue for 4 or 5 years and cleaned it, and was able to remove the odor from the cue. The case, however, still smelled like smoke and in fact if you put it in a room, the room soon smelled like cigar smoke.

The case was in perfect condition otherwise. I sold the cue and when I went to inspect it, I remembered the cigar smell. I told the buyer about it and we both tried various chemicals, etc. but the smoke smell just wouldn't budge.

I ended up refunding him for the value of the case. Basically, the case was ruined. Bear in mind the case was kept in a smoke free environment for at least the 5 years I owned it and the smell was reduced, but still unacceptably bad.

Do all you big anti-smoking supporters also love government interference in other aspects in your life. Plain and simple, the government is banning a legal product on private property. This goes against all of the freedoms this country was founded upon.

The problem about you not wanting to be in a smoke filled bar or pool hall, is quite simply that, your problem. If enough people agreed with you, there would have been smoke free bars/pool halls without the need for government intervention, but no, you think you know what's best for everyone else, and need to use the strong hand of government to get what you want.

If the government REALLY cared about the effects of cigarettes, they would just make them illegal. The problem with that is that they are addicted to the tax revenue. The banning of cigarettes has very little to do about the government caring about your well being and much more to do with them wanting to control every aspect of your life.

This comes from a non-smoker....

My friend Manny Ortega is lying right now on his death bed if he hasn't passed already. He was the only one guy that would play 14.1 with me. With a cigarette burning senselessly while he shot, one would burn after another. Dragging on it occasionally , then letting it burn. I will miss him, and lying there waiting , he knows what killed him. I don't care who steps in , Gov. Medicine, or common sense.
You speak anti Government , we don't need Dictatorship, but laws for the good of all yes.

the good doers will be racing to get home to beat on the smokers.first they have to take their SUV fill it up,break a few speed limits stop by a hamburger joint.get to the house turn on all the electrics,crank up their computer,kick on the AC so there is a good load on the power line.then beat on the smokers about causing a health issue.Stop this thread now!

That's too bad. I'm sure that if your friend hadn't smoked cigarettes he would have lived forever. :rolleyes:

None of these smoking bans say that you still don't have the right to smoke.

I smoked for 20+ years and only quit about 1 year and 3 months ago. I quit not because I disliked smoking but because I was really starting to feel like crap. I don't go preaching to my friends who still smoke (and the majority of them do), it doesn't bother me at all.

In San Antonio, we have the smoking ban going into effect in August of this year. My case may soon be saved :D

Excellent. I'm happy that you quit smoking. But obviously you didn't need to government to force it out of you...

Absolutely spot on!


It is called a free market system...if there was enough demand for non smoking bars and clubs, they would have popped up everywhere and made a killing. These activists/fascists also forget that private property rights are the basis for most of our legal system, even going back before independence to the British Magna Carta.

If anyone is interested in first hand facts about the economics pre-post ban on bars, I wrote a post about that awhile ago [here]. But the activists never want to talk about numbers, or the workers getting the shaft and having their livelihood affected....nah that stuff is ok, as long as they don't have to smell any 'icky' smoke. Then a year later its "Gee, why did that bar/poolhall I used to like close down...?" :rolleyes:
