Kamui chalk review!!!

Seems kinda funny but I bet there will be many of us asking for a piece of Kamui chalk for Christmas this year.

I wouldn't mind getting one in my stocking. As long as I'm not paying for it.

What do you want for Christmas this year honey?
A piece of chalk.

Beats getting coal. Johnnyt

Ouch. $40 so far.
8 bids so these guys want it bad. Have to watch it and see the final bid in a day. Bet it goes up a bit more too.

9ballkid...I'm glad you like the Kamui chalk, but it does not do the things you think it does. Chalk has no bearing on how long the tip is in contact with the CB (1/1000 of a second). Chalk does not "impart" english on the CB. That's done with an accurate stroke, and the kind of chalk makes no difference. Squirt has to do with cuesticks, and how you deliver your stroke...nothing to do with what kind of chalk you use. Just wanted to clear up a few facts. Obviously you like it, and it works well for you. That's good, but don't confuse having an accurate and repeatable stroke, with using a "better" chalk. Miscues occur 95% of the time because of a poor stroke. I'm sure Kamui stays on the tip well, because of the consistency. You will still miscue, even with that chalk, if you have a poor stroke.

Scott, I never heard that squirt could be changed by how you deliver your stroke. Could you give an example or some data. Thanks with all respect.

Hi All,
When describing the chalk... I cringe when I read or hear "greasy" or "muddy" or "creamy". I know it is in our nature to objectify something that is foreign to us. The Kamui Chalk is far from being greasy and muddy. The Compound is humidity resistant. It is soft feeling and has a slight stick to it.

Our promise to you is we are never satisfied with the products we produce and when we can push science to the extreme... we will. And we will produce the best for YOU.

Just when exactly is this miracle chalk available to the public? I've called every dealer in Denver with no success. I called your 877 number for information, but no one was available to speak to me.

This whole thing has the feeling of a spoof, or worse.

An open request to Kamui

Kamuitipsdotcom:

While Kamui's sales face is appreciated (i.e. the "all about YOU" stuff), I'm sure I'm speaking for a heck of a lot of potential customers out here when I say that this does not answer our questions concerning your product.

For example, it'd been asked numerous times what the proper procedure is to use your chalk product -- i.e. is it safe to chalk after every shot (as happens in a committed-to-muscle-memory pre-shot routine), or does the user/player have to make it a point to keep track of approximate number of shots before chalking again?

Post #37 by scottjen26 is a good place to start:

Seems like the chalk is well liked, too bad it's not like $5 or even $10 but like many things these days when new tend to be overpriced. That being said, I may try a piece. Still curious though on a few points, some that were asked earlier:

- Since it lasts so long, in competitive situations, are people literally just chalking once a rack, once every other, ??? I could probably get out of the habit as part of the PSR to chalk, would be harder to avoid that impulse right before shooting a stroke shot of some sort…

- Does it hurt if you do over apply the chalk?

- Does the chalk mark from hitting the cue ball stay longer, which could increase the chance of a skid, or does the chalk still come off the cue ball normally as it rolls along the table?

Scott

Yes, we get it -- Kamui is "all about YOU" and all the other marketing niceties. But we would very much appreciate an answer to these aforementioned concerns.

Humbly awaiting your answer,
-Sean

Not very often do I quote myself on this forum. But 90 minutes after making the whiney post above, I got a phone call from a Kamui rep named John. He explained how to get it, what the price would be, and the availability.

Now, if the company's products perform as well as its service people, the chalk will be cheap, all things considered.

Good luck at trying to register at Kamui unless its changed.
I tried numerous times in the past, none of the account numbers
seemed to work and getting an answer back from Kamui was a lesson
in futility.

Curious as to when you felt you needed to rechalk.
Are you checking the tip after each shot, waiting for a miscue or some other trigger?
Seems most peeps chalk in their PSR so wondering how difficult it would be to break that habit.

Its real hard to break the habit of chalking after every shot since i have been doing it for 40 years. Its been a week now & i have a pretty good grip on it now. I did the ole see how many balls i could go using all extream english & 12 was the magic # so now i rechalk every 3 shots need it or not cause when my cash is on the line i got to be sure.I did buy a pocketchalker so i dont donate to the nits a good piece of magic.

Having had the opportunity to use a cube of Kamui Chalk one afternoon, I wold say if it was price in the neighboorhood of Blue Diamond I would consider using it.

I found the texture similar to the Old Balabushka Billiard Chalk, that came in Blue & Green colors,

but not as messy.

So friction has nothing to do with spin? I mean when a cue tip hits a billiard ball the amount of friction between them at the point of impact has absolutely NO BEARING on the amount of spin generated?

If so then why do we use chalk at all? And if we use chalk why don't we all use the Pioneer brand then that you get at Kmart and Sears?

I think that it should be clear to everyone that ANY material that is put between the tip and the cue ball can either increase the friction (or grab) or decrease it.

Try putting a layer of graphite on your tip and hitting the cueball off center and see what happens. Graphite is what is inside a pencil. So take a pencil and cover your tip and play a few shots.

The concept of friction really shouldn't be in debate here. Any good player knows when they have a crappy piece of chalk and it's not working for them.

I have to admit I purchased two pieces with the intent if I didn't like it I would sell the second piece on Ebay and recover some of my cost.

Needless to say I will not be selling the second piece now.

The down side is a piece split off the cube and while it wasn't large at 25.00 a cube...I felt like well there goes 2.50....

Making sure you dont lose the little bag can be annoying as well (assuming it needs to be stored in the resealable bag)

The upside is the chalk stays on...and be it a placebo effect or not the English seems to be consistent and I have more confidence in my shots.

It is my understanding that $25/piece is for chalk that is basically a prototype at this point. (not a released product) They haven't finalized things yet to provide a set price.

I have used it and I don't think there would be any issue with chalking after every shot.... There would be just more chalk on your tip. It just isn't as necessary as with other chalks.

Very different then any other chalk I have used before--->my advice for players is to try it before you form an opinion.

Although not related to chalk, my experience of getting feedback from kamui couldn't have been more different.
