Testing the new Tiger Cue

I just brought back one of the new Tiger cues tonight to try out. Tiger is only a few blocks from my office. They've done wraps and tips for me, so I was anxious to try one of their new cues.

My own playing cue has stack wrap, which I think is terrific, and a sniper tip on a Predator shaft. I like stack wraps a lot and I think they change the feel of a cue, much the same way a wrapless cue is different from a leather wrapped cue. The stack wrap has a feel that's right in between leather and wrapless.

This Tiger starts off with basic parts made by a custom cue maker here in the USA to Tiger's specifications and then finished up by Tiger. The folks at Tiger, Tony and Corey, are absolute perfectionists. The shaft, wrap, tips, and finish is done right there, so you have a basically hand finished and fit semi-custom cue.

It's a very good looking cue and it's well put together. Everything fits perfect and is straight and solid. There is not so much as a visible speck of dust in the finish.

The cue has a thin walled stainless joint. This is one of those cues that doesn't feel like it has a stainless joint at all. It makes no noise, it's solid as all get out, and the cue has a very neutral balance. The Tiger X shaft feels and hits like the premium shaft it is.

I would recommend the Tiger to someone considering an upscale production cue or an entry level custom player. As far as the way it plays and looks, it's great.

Nince Cue Tate!

It's about time someone showed one of these cues! LOL! I've been trying to find one to look at forever! Unfortunately, it has a SS joint, but other than that it looks really, really nice. Especially with the stacked leather wrap. I don't know why I'm asking you this Tate, but does it come standard with the X shaft? Also, have you tried the X-shaft and what is your take on it. Please to not compare it to the other shafts, I just want to know how it felt to you! One last thing. How much longer before you get some Dennis Swift stuff on your website?

I promise to put Swift up this weekend. I've done the write up, I just have to drag the cases out and photograph them. I have been very lazy lately.

The cue I used had a Tiger X shaft. This shaft has the playing characteristics of a decent quality lower squirt conventional shaft. It very consistent no matter where the "spine" is because the spine is well balanced around the shaft in sections.

The X on this 19 ounce cue weighs 3.8 ounces, with just slightly less weight in the tip area due to the ferrule construction (I guess). I play with a Predator and I only had a little trouble adjusting to the small amount of extra squirt.

The X definitely has a stiffer conical taper but it does not feel overly stiff when you're playing with it. I would say it is a very neutral shaft that does what you ask of it with no real surprises. It would be an easy shaft to adjust to.

You would not even know the cue has a stainless joint. It's thin walled and looks like it's lined inside wih phenolic. I think the collar is just for looks and protection.

Chris, Your pix look great. Really shows off the cue details. Just want to mention that I have 4 of the Tiger cues in stock with a nice discount off MSRP! I also have extra Tiger-X shafts available for the cues.

My friend bought one from the Expo and took 1-2 shots with it. It felt very, very solid but the weight was really heavy to me so I gave it back to him. The points were not as sharp as I would like them to be.

I'll see if I can try it out again tonight.

I hit with this same cue, an aquantance of mine purchased it at the show. It hits like a ton of bricks. I LOVED it. I have never experienced any of the tiger products. i shoot with a predator cue. I would say hands down this is on par if not better(the wrap puts it over the top for me, BEAUTIFUL)

As for the stainless joint, it's not full metal. Tiger has some type of hard plastic, rubber stuff inside that makes the cue feel less "clangy" than a true stainless joint.

I picked the cue up and ran a rack like it was my job. If i had the dough i would buy one in a second.

The X shaft is being improved with a new ferrule, Saber T, I think. I think it will be even better. I am going to wait until it is available before trying it. Nice wraps, cue looks very good.

Cues numbered 51-100 will be featuring the New Saber-T ferrules. We are just starting to use the new ferrules on all X-Laminated Shafts.
