If you owned an original Balabushka...

Most pawn shops are in business to make money. I doubt it that they have a Buska that they don't know what it is.if their not sure about something most get it authenticated. What you are probably seeing is a good knock off.

I've certainly seen far crazier things after 14 years in the collectibles business than a pawn shop owner selling an unmarked pool cue far below value. And I wouldn't expect a pawn shop owner to necessarily know where to go for verification on an item like an unmarked cue, Google and eBay is no help. It wasn't that long ago we saw the eBay store guy selling an unused Tad and unused Gina, both from the 60s, for the value of the Brunswick cases, which he was familiar with. The Gina was described as having "some girl's name on it".

Anyway to the OP. Strongly believe its a Bushka? Send it to Tascarella and take the guesswork out of it.

I think we should get Dennis Searing mentioned in the next Dos Equis commercial...

Dennis Searing builds him a cue... and he pays Dennis in 10 years... because he is the most interesting man in the world...lol

Well Dennis is certainly one of, if not THE, most interesting man in the cue trade. He'd give the Dos Equis guy a run for his money any day.

So you went in with the intention of robbing him, and you got robbed.

There's a word for that...

I once bought an imitation Balabushka for $600. I didn't know that it was an imitation at the time (made by Adam Cue) and I thought I was robbing the guy.

Shoot with it!

Unless you have crazy outstanding bills/debt, why wouldn't you just shoot with it? Keep your big yap shut and just enjoy playing with it!

Those cues got famous in the first place for one simple reason: they shoot ridiculously well. So use it for what it was meant for!

Good point.

The first 10 hits on google for authentication balabuska produce the results you need.

You send the cue to Pete Tascarella, regardless of what you are going to do with the cue, no Balabushka is a Balabushka with a letter from Pete. If you are going to have it refinished, the only guy is Pete Tascarella.

PM me if you need assistance.

Thanks

Kevin

Kevin,

Would you happen to know how Mr. Tascarella restores Balabushkas? Does he put a finish on that is the same as what George used, or is it the multi-coat automotive type that is most commonly seen in today's high end cues?

I don't know the answer to that, but Pete does. If you feel your find is a Balabushka, I can't stress enough how important it is to get in contact with Tascarella.

Kevin your right as far as some crazy finds do happen but usually pawn shops know what they are selling these days. Not like in the past.
Again we agree on Pete Sr. for info on any cue that you might think is a Buska.
