The seven cues in the photo are made by the same cuemaker.

Guess who?

Those cues were done by "Threadless" Fred Shapiro. His idea was to introduce a threadless joint that would allow a pool player to take his cue apart in a hurry in case things started getting a little out of hand. It never caught on. :D

your kidding right? how in the hell would the shaft stay on? a magnet? the force?

Come on Ghost, get serious. It was gravity.
On the butt of each shaft was a small sticker that read. "CAUTION: Do not use cue in downward position!" :D

were there magnets in the shafts? how could this work any othe way...

Note: See the above reply by Mr. Steamer.

Ladies and Gentlemen, a clarification is in order here. The mechanism employed by Mr. Shapiro to hold the shaft to the butt was plain old, run-of-the-mill, everyday gravity. Don't we all remember what we learned in eighth-grade science? Gravity sucks!

well being that your cue is not actually perfectly level normally during play, and often tipped forward I don't see gravity having a good effect on the joint....doesn't seem that would be a solid joint at all, almost like those trick golf clubs.

It would probably teach you to finish your stroke tho as if you short stroke the shaft would probably fly off lol

or maybe its a super bad a*s joint? never seen one play, just seems way far "out of the box" imop

I said they never caught on, didn't I?
Anyway, they turn the lights out here at ten o'clock so I'd better be heading over to my ward. Maybe tomorrow we can talk about how cue balls spin the opposite way in Australia. :grin-square:

Threadless Cue Joints

Very interesting thread!
I make a threadless cue joint called the 1Klik (see www.1Klik.co.uk)
I sell it mainly to snooker cue companies and to Longoni in Italy as a butt joint for extentions (see www.3lobite.com)

I have constantly improved the locking properties of the joint over the last three years, and will shortly introduce the the QKlik joint for pool cues, I am just waiting for prototype 13 to be approved.

I will update the forum when I have some pictures to show.

It was my understanding that Allens backswing (or lack there of) was due to walls being in the way when he was an upstart, and instead of using a shorter cue, he adjusted with what he had????
