Those cues were done by "Threadless" Fred Shapiro. His idea was to introduce a threadless joint that would allow a pool player to take his cue apart in a hurry in case things started getting a little out of hand. It never caught on.![]()

Ladies and Gentlemen, a clarification is in order here. The mechanism employed by Mr. Shapiro to hold the shaft to the butt was plain old, run-of-the-mill, everyday gravity. Don't we all remember what we learned in eighth-grade science? Gravity sucks!
