I just scanned the people on the Main Forum and checked out who was watching the WORLD 9 BALL CHAMPIONSHIP which is being Live-streamed. There are very few people who seem interested in watching the FREE LIVE STREAM TODAY.

I realize that the two U.S. Players, Lombardon and Van Boening are no longer in the event but what does that say about the state of pool?

I'm sure a lot of people are at work and can't watch it. If it were Saturday or Sunday there would be more viewers.

Yes, that is exactly correct. In fact, being "at work" is one thing; being at a particular site where they're smart about their Internet bandwidth not being abused by video streams, that's quite another. Many of us are behind firewalls or network content filters (e.g. the WebSense content filtering products) that block live stream content.

Ah, to have the JoeyA retired life where we can eat/sleep/dream/live pool 24x7 -- that's what we all strive for! :D

OK, I'll tell the rest of the story. I take of a half day most Friday's. A free one pocket tournament at Buffalo Billiards every Friday encourages me to work half days on Friday.

sfleinen - I've read a lot of your posts and see you're pretty technically savvy. If you haven't figured out a way around WebSense, let me know. The bandwidth part might be more of an issue.

That's how it is here, save for our people use BlueCoat. I'd be watching as well.

Ohhhh, believe me, as a "white hat" security guy, I know how to get around it. The problems is, being a "white hat," I have to stand by my word to the company that I'm doing the consulting for that I practice what I preach. In fact, the only non-work-related website I visit during work hours, on my breaks, is right here at AZB.

I mentioned the WebSense thing for those folks that are not in a network administrator position, or in a position where the, umm..., shall we say, "benefits of knowledge" can be exploited. ;) For those folks without these benefits, the unfortunate "it is what it is" applies to their situation.

The bandwidth issue is big, though. Especially when a company needs the Internet bandwidth for transactions, and those are being queued because several folks are watching a live stream.

That is one of the reasons I have a dedicated server in Chicago. I've been a Unix/Linux admin for 12 years and, as you know, we like to "make things work" just to prove a point. The great thing about that is we have the tools installed (even in a standard build) to circumvent just about any security that is setup on our network.

The company I work for knows I'm not even close to being a "white hat". They tend to leave me alone and have put me in my own little corner, just the way I like it. ;)

Ahh, someone after my propeller-bladed-cap heart! I've been a Sun Solaris admin (before the "Big Red Cloud" known as Oracle took them over :angry: ) and Cisco CCIE (written) for the last 25 years. The last 10 years (you got me on two) I've been a Debian / RedHat / Ubuntu admin. Know what you mean with the "making it work because... I can" thing. But, the current gig "pays the bills" and is somewhat rewarding, so I'll use my own saying against myself -- "it is what it is." :D
