What size is BW's joint , Craig ?
Is it .835" too ?

No his is .850" and it is has always been the same for almost 20 years to my knowledge.

All of Billys shafts have consitently fit all the cues he has made since the late 80's, so buying shafts sight unseen is never a problem concerning the fit and he uses a flat faced joint with a 3/8-10 pin.

Oh and by the way, Billy did spend some time with Jerry Franklin in his shop, how long I don't know, but I suspect that is when and possible why he started build his cues using this taper.

Joey, I may be wrong but I have you also use this taper or did at one time is that correct?

What cheap shot was made at the cuemaker?
I've had 2 SouthWests prior to buying this one and neither one had a roll. And both were 6 pointer's with all the rings and costs me thousands of dollars. As did the one I was now asking about.

Craig, that is not even close to SW taper.
SW at .835' is more likely to lift when rolled on the slate from any hump or expansion somehere.
Mine is not parabolic, it's compound.

No it is not exactly the same as a Southwest Taper, however, it is still a Parabolic Taper that is modified to fit Bills needs. Kersenbrock invented this type of taper and I know from what I have seen that his also are not .835, but they are still Parabolic. While I agree the smaller the joint diameter the harder to use this taper it certainly doesn't have to be .835 to be parabolic.

Do you see light between between the first 3 inches ( joint down ) and the felt when you roll his butt ?
.850 from .835 is a huge difference imo.

Yes you do, the joint is completely suspended in the air and not touching the table for 3 inchs minimum.

Jim Buss,
I don't know who you are saying is wrong, but I did what I explained I did. I'm not a cuemaker so I wanted more knowledgeable opinions. From what I was told from the local cuemaker, who by the way posts on AZ told me it was out at the A joint. I had asked for peoples opinions and I was given quite a few. The bottom line is, at this time the situation has been resolved with the seller.

I was trying to respond to someone who said that if you roll a cue on the table, and it varies, then it's warped.

After reading this response, I can't seem to find that post. I know I don't post often, but I must have done something wrong. Can posts be removed by the poster?

All I can tell you is that I've been to southwests shop many many times. Cues do not leave the building unless they are 100% perfect ! They are the best made and best hitting cues bar none in my humble opinion !

I agree that the SW's play great. The intial post was about the nose/ forearm movement, not playablity.
