The break cues and the jump cues are really awesome. Anyone have experience with his playing cues? What characteristics do they have? How do they play?

Earl attributes much of his resurgence to the equipment Gulyassy has provided him with... Considering it's Earl and he is giving Mike a good helping of the credit I doubt you could question the playability factor of his cues...

Thanks for the responses. I have to wonder though if Earl's cues aren't made to exactly Earl's specs and if his specs would have any resemblance to the commercial line of cues that Mike sells.
Mike sells cues w/Earl's specs, too. You should call him.
I think one of the accessories that's optional with a cue of Earl's specs, is the Thule roof rack to mount on your car's roof (as well as the orange handkerchiefs to tie on each end of the cue), to take the cue home.

Earl 'works' on anything he plays with in any sport, be it Golf, Pool, or Tennis. He adjusts things to his liking. He keeps Johnson + Johnson in business with his tape purchases, believe me!!
Mike builds them the way Earl likes them. Earl will customize it with a tennis tape wrap over the factory wrap. Don't think Mike is going to start using tennis tape on them quite yet.
I actually have one of Earl's Gulassy sticks fully customized by Earl himself. It's like new....Ebony version.
I might be tempted in letting it go if you are looking for one?? He's coming out here (Az) in a couple weeks, I could have him sign it as well. Maybe even personalize it for you.

I've been playing with Gullyassy cues since 2006, I have three gullyassy playing cues, and I have two Gullyassy Breaking cues aswell, the playing cues are awesome, I can't even describe how much I love them, if I didn't, I wouldn't of order another cue from the same guy, and I only have bought new butts, and the reason is a new look, nothing else.
The hit is fantastic, cue has great feel to it, you could do crazy shots with less of stroke effort, I just love them.

Mike is a custom cue maker. Call him and go over what you want. I've had two of his cues. I had him make me one several years ago. I traded that cue and an early Sledge Hammer for a Gulyassy that was less than three months old. The cue I got in trade played good but had only one shaft and it was longer than normal. Threw the balance off for me so I sold it. I told Mike in March that I would be in to talk about him making me another cue. I just haven't got around to it yet.
The cue Mike made for me originally I liked a lot. Flat face, wood to wood, big pin. Plain Cocobolo with a linen wrap and two shafts. This was before he started making shafts with a parabolic taper. Mine hit quite stiff but I haven't hit one with the parabolic taper.

I have a Gulyassy playing cue, and I'm really pleased with it. I've had it for about two years. Mine has Mike's very extended pro taper; I don't know what he calls it, but it's basically the taper Earl uses. To be honest, I didn't think I'd like that taper--too whippy. I've always preferred South West's parabolic taper. I must say, however, Mike's cue with that taper plays superbly. Squirt (or deflection) is minimal, cueball action on power shots is excellent, and touch on stun shots is much better than I expected with that type shaft.
Mike made the cue to my specs. It has a forward balance, 19.5" from the butt plate, 18.5 oz, with Mike's modified 3/8x10 flat-faced joint that anchors into a plastic receiver in the shaft. The result is a cue that screws together solidly and never comes loose.
The hit is outstanding and the cue is absolutely solid. I've also got Mike's "Shaft Freeze" treatment on the shaft. Mike claims that treatment stiffens the hit. Maybe so. But I like it because it makes the shaft easy to clean and keeps it smooth. My cue shows no sign of chalk discoloration, even after two years of use. And cleaning it is a simple matter of wiping it with a damn cloth, followed by a quick burnishing.
Cosmetically, mine is wrapless, featuring a curly maple handle, butt ring and joint, with highly figured bacote framing the handle. Bacote gives it a sharp hit. In all, my Gulyassy plays great. I, therefore, recommend Mike's cues unhesitatingly.
