I went to a weekly tournament last night after taking most of the summer off so far. but really that's not the story.

Before the tournament started I ran into an old guy named JW that taught me how to play one pocket a few years ago. Every time I run into him he asks me to play, he likes the opportunity to play 1p. I agreed. I figured the place only has bar boxes, maybe I have a better chance.

Anybody who's ever put down playing 1p on a bar box should probably revise their thinking on this, it's way more difficult. JW had me stuck 99% of the time starting with the first break. I played safe, he played better safe till I screwed up (which I did..... lots) then he'd nail a bank or pull some crazy shit out of the backside of his cue. I was scrambling, it was pathetic.

I pulled up after 2 games being short on gas money and frankly more than a little humbled.

What's the lesson here? I'm still trying to figure that one out. I'm a much better player than I was when he first gave me taught me how to play, after last night I think I'd rather stick to 9 foot tables against him for 1 pocket. Then again, nothing teaches you faster than that burning feeling behind your ears and that desire never to feel that again. perhaps 1p on a bar box isn't out of the question.

Yeah, playing one hole on a smaller table definitely is a challenge, especially if you play on 9 footers all the time (no matter what the game).

Which JW?
Jim Ward?

If you like one pocket, Len Relling likes to play at sharks........

Dumb ass. lol
Hey, its always worked for me.
Next time I see you, I won't be wearing a zebra shirt. It will just be a nice 3 day holiday and I will be there to have fun and play a little.
There is no way in h ell they will talk me into working.
I'll book a cheap West Jet and no 10 hr drives either.

Hope your summers been great James.
