Bill can't play? I thought his cues were known to play really good. And they look good too.

Bull. Bill was known for playing good One Pocket and betting his own money, as I understand it.
As for his cues, yes, they play good and look good.
And, I'll believe he's quitting when I hear it from him.

bill stroud

Yes i said ! Guess u didnt read! Bill stroud couldnt play a lick! His sticks are mediocer at best! Gary medlin in lake charles makes the best cues in the country for the money! Stroud was never a good player! Me and robert newkirk went to shreve to play him some 9 ball one pocket any game he looked like he'd seen a ghost! Yea i said it!

Stroud cues

His cues all had a blunt sound to them because when he put in the butt screw he had a small gap from the wood to the screw and when u hit with it it had a hollow sound! Sparky

Now I really don't care if Bill can shoot pool anymore or if he ever could but trashing a master cue makers work is where I draw the line. I owned one of Gary's "Gem" cues and I was not impressed. I used it as a break cue until I finally gave it away because the value of his cues are horrible once purchased. Comparing a Gem cue to one of Bill's is like comparing a hyundai to a ferrari. You are apparently an idiot so I won't go on as you may not be able to comprehend some of what I want to say. Go back to fairy land, I will supply the fairy dust. You are a true tool.

Keep it going, others on this site have reading comprehension. A JW cue is like have a certified check in your case, a check good in any room in the country. That says a little something about Bill Stroud's skill and reputation as a cue maker. With that being said I bet he can play a little bit too. Good luck to you Bill whatever you do moving forward.

Mark,

Perhaps you have confused me with another cuemaker from Louisiana?
I have never played pool in Shreveport. Never in New Orleans or Lake Charles?

No one has ever paid for a cue of mine and not received it.

Check your facts.

From the horses mouth.

And im here to tell you this man can play:thumbup:

Legend

To add my 2 cents here. I think this is turning into 1 persons BS negative statements and alot of AZr's positive points. I think its time to give thanks to a man who helped make cues what they are today. Bill took pride in every cue he made and they are coveted by many in this industry.

You had a long long run of making them. Thanks for all the beautiful cues made by you.

Many beautiful days of just enjoying the felt to ya Bill.

Could Bill play? I ran into him in Cochran's on Market Street in San Francisco in the summer of 1967. Yeah, he could play and give weight to most anybody on this board. Nine-ball or one-pocket, pick you poison.

I can't say how he plays today, but he played pretty sporty when I first knew him back in 1963. By the time I left to go back to college in 1964, Billy was generally acknowledged to be the best 9-Ball player in Dallas. I bought a cue from him in 1980 (the cue was $200 with two shafts and I paid another $50 for a Fellini case) and it was one of the best playing cues I have owned. Unfortunately, the cue was stolen about a year after I bought it. I've never heard anyone say they paid for a cue from him and not gotten the cue.

Based on this input, I don't wonder why this fella's all red.

Sometimes I see some very intelligent things posted on this forum. This isn't one of those times.

I'm not a cue maker but it is my understanding that this gap is necessary.
Without the gap, the cue has a 'thunk' sound and also may cause interior
damage.
I had a cue once that sounded terrible. The reason was that the bottom
of the shaft pilot was touching the butt at the bottom of the screw.
A cue maker took a bit off the pilot and the problem disappeared.

Be nice if Mr Stroud responded ...I'm curious.

I also think this thread is going to be like the 'Meuler' thread.....
...regardless of your negativity....it will be great for Bill Stroud and JW.
