Hi all-
A good friend of mine has a cue that he has been playing with for a long time. It is a fairly unique cue, however I've seen one other by the same manufacturer in the area.
The story goes:
My friend was a commissioned sales-guy for a distributor of this brand (I imagine in the early 90s), and would get a few bucks for every cue that he sold. He would go to pool halls, talk them up, and sell them if he could! He used a bit of his money to acquire one for himself, which he's used ever since. He worked in the Portland OR area and sold them in his spare time. He believes the name of the company was 'DymondTek' or something similar.
The wood is supposedly a diamond wood, and is indeed very strong. It has an awesome taper to it.
He has said that the distributor he worked with actually died about 10-15 years ago, and the guy's widow threw out all the sales books/literature, so he doesn't know how to go about figuring out the name. Tons of googling have been to no avail.
Now, unfortunately, it has developed a bit of a crack at the butt of the cue (you can see he's put scotch tape over it!), so I wouldn't mind seeing if I could find him a similar one to play with.
I know there are dozens of custom cue makers, but the existence of a distributor, sales people, and sales literature makes me think this might have been a company that has since gone out.
So, does anyone recognize them from the pictures, or have any ideas on where to go from here?
Thanks!
